The Nun 2 Wins Box Office with $32.4 Million Opening Weekend as Barbie Drops to Fifth Place

The Nun 2 was the highest grossing film of the weekend with a $32.6 million opening in domestic theaters from Friday to Sunday, according to multiple reports, lagging behind the $53.8 million premiere of The Nun but still coming in as the second-best opening weekend for a horror movie this year.

It is now the highest-grossing film in The Conjuring horror franchise, according to the Hollwood Reporter, as it has earned $365.6 million at the worldwide box office





The Equalizer 3, which led the box office on its opening Labor Day weekend, earned $12.1 million in its second weekend for a total of $61.9 million so far.



My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, which has a critics’ score of 28% and audience score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, came in third place, earning $10 million in its opening weekend.



Jawan, a Hindi-language action thriller, earned $5.9 million over Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a total of $7.5 million so far (the movie premiered Thursday).



In its eighth week, Barbie rounds out the top five weekend winners with $5.9 million in earnings over the last three days for a total domestic draw of $620 million so far, making it the highest-grossing film of the year.

The Nun 2 Scares Off Poirot to Become Mother Superior of Box Office with $14.7M Second Weekend

It looks like Hercule Poirot doesn’t have a prayer at winning the box office this weekend, with Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting in Venice losing No. 1 to the second weekend of New Line’s The Nun 2, $14.5M to $14.7M.

That’s in line with industry estimates, which show a $100K-$300K lead for The Nun 2 over the Disney/20th Century Studios film.
