Default Accelerated Reader

Does anyone know what that is?? If not....

It's a reading program where you have to read so many books, that are labeled with your readling level and so many points. Well, you read the books that have your reading level, then take a test over the book when you are done. Some schools make you have so many points by the end of a quarter/semester, or give you a set number of books to read.

My question: (aside from the one at the top) Does your school have it??

no this thing is a just a computer program that has questions from certain books you read.

We had that in elementary and middle school but not in high school. In elementary we just did it for fun. In 7th grade we like didnt do it lol. .. and in 8th grade we had to have 10 points each nine weeks which is nothing. Some people had to have like 30.

The school district I work at has the AR program. They start it in Kindergarten (teacher reads book kids answer the questions) then in 1st grade the kids read the books and answer the questions on the computer themselves. We continue it through high school. The number of points you need each 6-weeks increases each year, since lower level books have lower points. In the 7th and 8th grades, they are required to get 30 points a 6-weeks.

Its no different than what Pizza Hut does with their reader program, except instead of writing book reports you take a little 10 question quiz on the computer.

Some of the harder tests have 20 questions.

The school I used to work at did not have AR, but the one I am teaching at this year does. I haven't quite figured it out yet, LOL, but my 2nd graders are very anxious to get started on it. They earn prizes based on their points.

I've been doing it since 1st grade. We have to get 15 AR points a marking period. To take the test we have to have a booklog(s) on the book, which are 100 pages for each booklog (or more), and have to have a minimum of 300 words each. Twice a year, we get the AR store where we buy things based on our points.
