Ward was a man of few bad character traits

Ward is really an interesting guy. So many good qualities he had. Any bad character trait was rare.

Bit of a temper. But, always in control. I thought his anger any time he had it was justified and very mild.
Sexist. Made a snide remark when June's relative gave birth to a girl.
Jealousy. Would ridicule June's old boyfriends when brought up.

The early writing really showed his temper. They toned it down later; maybe he went to Anger Management classes LOL!

You have to really admire Ward for not clobbering Beaver ( a lot) and Wally (sometimes). That was running gag in the show - the boys knew about bad consequences from making bad decisions and went ahead anyways. Ward at the end of every episode always told the boys to come talk to him, but they always schemed a plan to keep their mischief away from Ward.

Had I been Ward, I would have clobbered the Beaver, a lot because he never learned from previous mistakes.

Wally would tell Beaver to go and present his problem to Dad. As an example of another running gag, Beaver digs up a tree in the yard at the old Cleaver home, since his parents had given him the tree. So rather than giving Ward the exact problem (I stole a tree, but it's really mine), Beaver asks Ward something like: If I had a lot of money and put it in the bank, does it then become the bank's money? Ward says, no, what's yours is yours. No matter what? Yes, no matter what.

So Mr. Benner at the old Cleaver house eventually calls and tells Ward what happened, and Beaver is in trouble. Like all sitcom problems, it comes out OK in the end.

Ward should have eventually told Beaver--In the future, Beaver, give me your exact problem, not some unrelated example.

Hugh Beaumont deserves a lot of credit (pulling off the near impossible) portraying the near flawless father.

I like when Ward was MAD at June for Cutting the Tar Paper with the hedge clippers ... but he backed off fast, and we know why - nooky
