The words near the end are in Spanish. This is very usual of
Feliciano style, he always uses his feelings and inspiration to add more "spice" to his songs. He adds near the end of the song: Oyeme,Chico,..Chico, vamos al vacilon. He's speaking directly to Chico on this part, like giving advice to an old friend,... Listen,Chico,...Chico let's go fool around;have a good time. Look, walking those Los Angeles streets, Chico is so lonely, as I once .... Hey, Chico, let's have a good time, and I'm going, going, going,yey... tururututu......... The word 'Vacilon' does not have a true english translation. It means: have a good time, fool around, hang w friends and FORGET your troubles. Good old advice, from a man that's been on his shoes. Hope this is useful. Take care and post often! And group,.... Keep the 'vacilon' going!

I don't think I have heard that part, even though I have the only Jose Feliciano album with both the entire opening and closing themes on it. I will have to listen to it again. This sounds very perceptive--wonder if Jose met Freddie before writing it and could sense the loneliness he was already feeling? I have always wondered that, just from the opening line of the song ("Chico, don't be discouraged..."), but this makes me wonder even more!

(hey, i was only seven-ish! i have a lot of catching up to do!) jamison |
