TV Movie "The Comedy Company" 1978 w/ Jack Albertson & Lawrence Hilton Jacobs - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Does anyone remember this movie? Interesting, it has Jack, and Lawrence Hilton Jacobs of Welcome Back Kotter.....and George Burns!! I have a copy here...haven`t watched in years....I should dig it out. It came out in 1978, between Chico and Jack`s short-lived show "Grandpa Goes To Washington"....ANYWAY, Jack plays a comedy club owner and at the beginning, there are two performwers on stage, and I swear one looks very similar to Freddie. VERY, VERY similar, but I forget the actor`s name....I`ll have to check. Anyone remember this movie?

The movie sounds great! Since you mention Jack Albertson, I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer. I was asked a little while back if Mrs. Jack Albertson is still living? Anyone know?

Unfortunately, No. Jack Albertson died November 25, 1981, he was 74. he was born in Malden, MA, June 16, 1907, He was 69 when Freddie died.

I am not sure, but if Jack was 74 in 1981 and I think the Mrs.'s was probably close in age to him, then she would be in her mid 90's. It is possible that she is still with us, but some how I doubt it. I do know they had a daughter. I am pretty sure she is still alive.

Dear Scott:

Yes, I recorded this movie also. It really struck me because Jack was so sad throughout the movie. He was giving his all to these struggling comedians. He admired George Burns and was trying to explain to the newcomers the secret of comedic success.

In the beginning, he blew my mind when he told the character, played by Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, about one of his proteges named, Frankie Price!!!! The same initials as "Our Prinze". He also spoke of how Frankie had made it, but continually questioned his success, etc. Jack had tears in his eyes and the pain in his heart was evident.

Notice the release date of the movie. The initials and the struggles this character had, may be just "coincidental", but I had the feeling that I was watching Jack give a tribute to Freddie and trying to help us understand the real world of comedy; the tears, fears, jealousy, pain, and if one is lucky, the rewards of it.

Also, "The Comedy Company" must be eluding to "The Comedy Store" in L.A.. Freddie actually worked there. It is the premiere club that many other comedians aspire to perform at.

I recommend this movie to the Board Members, you will get a glimpse into some of the things Freddie went through.
