…..could never have worked. It would have destabilized WTB? And the “Mona” cast was absolutely wretched.

Had they actually gone through and spun Mona off into her own series, I wonder then, if Who's the Boss? could've given Angela's friend Wendy Wittener (played by the late Dori Brenner) an expanded role and to I suppose, fill Mona's role as Angela's foil of sorts?

I was watching that episode on IFC recently, and I'm kind of glad that they didn't go through with that spin-off. Much of what made Mona's character work so to speak on Who's the Boss? was her interactions with Angela. Mona was more of a free spirit while Angela was more serious and uptight. Also, I don't know if running a fancy hotel is as universally relatable as a mother-daughter relationship.

Can anybody confirm this? Apparently, Katherine Helmond once stated in an interview that one of the plans for the Mona spin-off was to have James Coco (who played Tony's father-in-law, Nick Milano) essentially take her spot on Who's the Boss? But then, James Coco sadly passed away before the plan could fully go into fruition. That's one of the supposed reasons, why the Mona spin-off didn't entirely go through.
