Was Britney Spears adopting a new image with the album Britney?

In my box of music I found my copy of Britney Spears third album Britney and when I listened to it it seemed that this album was the beginning of her new image and I wonder if Britney Spears was trying to copy Janet Jackson when Janet released her 1993 album Janet with the Britney album? Another thing that surprised me about this album was that the ballad I'm Not A Girl Not Yet A Woman was the only ballad on the Britney album and she did a cover of Joan Jett And The Blackhearts hit I Love Rock And Roll. And I think what Jive Records was trying to do was make Britney like Janet Jackson and another thing was that people thought the Britney album would become Britney Spears's bestselling album in history especially since it promoted her movie debut Crossroads which would debut in theaters Summer 2002
