Default My Neighbors Are NOT Environmentally Friendly

Here is a sampling of the environmentally unfriendly things my neighbors do:

Spraying toxic herbicides on concrete instead of pulling the weeds.

Mowing their lawns 2 or even 3 times per week when they don't need it. Air pollution, noise pollution, and wasted gas.

Letting their cars idle for a long time on cold mornings while they sit inside the house, wasting gas, just to have them toasty warm.

Throwing plastic laundry detergent bottles in the trash. These are perfect for recycling, just rinse them when they're almost empty.

Throwing clean cardboard pizza box lids in the trash. These too are fine for recycling, they're as-new.

Throwing big pieces of lumber and boards in the trash instead of donating them to Habitat Re-Store.

It's discouraging seeing people making no effort.

Then there are the people who don't even rinse out containers, but try to recycle them. It's so simple to rinse out plastic, or glass.

I would hate to be their neighbor if they mow their grass three times a week. I hate noise and appreciate quiet.

The rest of it, I couldnt care less.

Yeah, the bonehead who has the house behind mine has an extremely loud mower. I put on ear protection when he goes at it, or leave in my car...!

There's mowing of the school corp. owned field across from me 4 or 5 times per week, with different sections done at times on riding mowers. It's very annoying. In years past it was never done that aggressively. (They used to let the grass grow and bring in a big combine infrequently that did the job in minutes.)

There was one week a couple years ago when they mowed the field and yards by the adjacent school on 6 different days of the same week. The baseball field gets mowed and then mowed again in the opposite direction in the same day.

Car idling also can be a noise pollution example -- my old next-door neighbor had a loud old truck he would let idle.

Those kinds of people irk me. I have a couple of neighbors that waste water. One grows a ton of vegetation which waste water and another waters his lawn for a lengthy time and the water runs the street. And then there are people that let their cars run with the A/C going because they don't want to get into a hot car. Unbelievable!

It's common for all sorts of commercial vehicles to be left idling. And police cars--the cops sit and do their paperwork with the engine on, even in moderate weather.

The school buses on my street often arrive early for the afternoon pick-up of students, and usually sit with their motors running unless the weather is unusually nice.

Here are a couple of stats that reveal why it's important to get more pizza box cardboard into the recycling stream:

"Based on industry data (and validated by the Fiber Box Association) it was estimated that the number of pizza boxes placed on the market in the U.S. annually and available to be recycled is 3 billion boxes equating to 600,000 tons of corrugated board."

And that's U.S. only...!
