……how all of the original four ladies met each other (barring Julia and Suzanne, obviously) and decided to start a business.

I think Charlene mentioned in one episode that she previously worked for Julia's husband, she was his bookkeeper, and Mary Jo was a neighbour of Charlene's, they lived in the same building but I don't think it's clear that they met because they lived in the same building.
