I don't disagree with her.
SNL back then was exactly like it is today, where 90% of the actual show was filled with overly long, unfunny sketches but then the one occasional skit that is so funny it becomes a catchphrase or meme (Cheezburger, Never Mind, Schwetty Balls, More Cowbell, Hanukkah Song, etc.). I think people misremember the early years as being so amazingly brilliant because of Animal House and also because there was a syndicated version that played the best bits. Everyone thinks that the actual show was wall to wall funny and filled with stuff like King Tut, Roseanne Roseannadanna, etc. but it was very hit or miss. For instance, everyone assumes that The Blues Brothers started out as these cool characters on SNL, but they started out with Jim Belushi and Dan Akroyd dressed as bees! |
