Most marked up dishes at Restaurants? :/

Spaghetti at Restaurants is one of the most marked up dishes at Restaurants. Spaghetti and meatballs in a tomato sauce can cost around $14. With tax and tip, that's almost $18! For just ONE person! Or, you can buy a package of spaghetti for about $3, a package of ground beef for about $9, and a jar of tomato sauce for about $5 and feed a family of 5 for ,$1 dollar less than one plate of spaghetti at a Restaurant!

You pay $7 for a short stack of pancakes at a diner, but you can buy a box of pancake mix for $3. Coffee is another item they really gouge you for.

I have not eaten out for a long while, but my friend is telling me the sushi roll I used to order for $13+ is now $18+.... Only the very well funded will make it....

I would save more money and not use eggs and just use a touch of oil. I can be cheap.

I would think Pizza would rank right up there. Pizza is cheap to make and has a huge markup. A $10 pizza probably costs fifty cents to make.

Ice cream parlors are ridiculously priced. Baskin Robbins/Coldstone etc. The prices they charge for ice cream is an incredible markup. One could basically get a tub of ice cream for the cost.

Hamburgers must have a huge markup because seemingly everyone sells them and advertises them. Chicken wings are another one.

About Cold Stone Creamery, I spent about $8 for a "I Like It(Small) Cookie Doughnt You Want Some or Cookies Make Everything Batter (Cute puns for both ice cream. I bought this when the first $1200 Stimulus checks for Covid were being given out, so I had a LOT more spending money. But in all honesty, I could have bought a half gallon of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream for about the same price. But the draw of CSC is the mixins of their signature creations. Most ice cream places don't have the toppings mixed in with the ice cream, they have them on top. But with CSC, the mixins are in the ice cream, not on top of them.

I think the most priciest restaurants are Mexican restaurants because they seem to make the most money. Because when I have eaten at Mexican restaurants I think the most pricey food there is burritos and even if you get a combination burrito or even a bean and rice burrito or just a bean burrito they charge $12 for it and I remember when burritos at Mexican restaurants were just $7 but I cannot believe the prices for burritos at Mexican restaurants now. The second food that is also pricey at Mexican restaurants is enchiladas and every time my mother wants enchiladas from a Mexican restaurant she can almost never get them because they are too pricey and Mom now eats Mexican food at home. Chinese restaurants have also gotten pricey and I cannot believe the dinner prices for Chinese food now. Take for instance if you want to get a family meal of Chinese food you have to pay $65 and I find that odd because it used to be that Chinese restaurants were inexpensive places where you could get a plate of pork chow mein and rice for real cheap. But if you look at Chinese restaurants today they add big prices for items like a bowl of noodles cost $20 and egg flower soup costs the same price and I think Chinese restaurants should lower their prices on foods like these

Pizza and Burritos are very expensive when you realize how cheap they are to make at home in comparison. Brewing coffee at home is so much cheaper.

I use an all-in-one pancake mix. Just add water. I'm angry they changed the name from Aunt Jemima for PC reasons but I still buy it. I won't use Aunt Jemima syrup though because it's corn syrup. I only use real maple syrup.

I sadly have to say I'm done with restaurants, even the ones that are affordable for me, the quality has declined. I stopped buying Panda but did yesterday and it is tolerable for a change.


The shocker for me at the store is the 1 pt of ice cream or gelato that WAS 2.99, 3.49 or so is NOW $6.49 1 pt.....

We're really getting the screws, perhaps it will turn around and get them.....

I think one of the most damaging things has been the price of fuel -- if you think about it, the suppliers for the restaurants are paying high prices to fuel their trucks, and that cost naturally becomes incorporated into food prices. Another thing is property taxes -- that can really add to an establishment's cost of doing business. One of the more contentious issues

Oh for sure, and CA gougers are the highest priced fuel in America, taxes from you know who and all the great lousy leaders. --- Sitting in their cushy seats...

One of the more contentious issues in my area is the hotel & restaurant tax. Here we have government adding to the consumer's burden. And this also applies to ready-made foods you pick up in a supermarket.
