Perhaps the most innovative part of the 90's was seeing what interesting food and drink concepts would be introduced in the years to come. In 1994 Minute Maid took on a new trend of healthy juices and launched Fruitopia and to honor it's debut Fruitopia launched a series of weird commercials. Now I don't know why Minute Maid decided to do this style of commercials for Fruitopia but when I first saw these commercials I thought it would make me dizzy and have double vision. But I'm surprised that nobody complained to Minute Maid about the Fruitopia commercials having this odd style of design that would make a person dizzy. But anyway the commercials were set to a Kate Bush song and talked about the many flavors of Fruitopia. Over time these commercials for Fruitopia disappeared and replaced with better commercials. Though a huge seller for many years Fruitopia was discontinued in 2002 but it sure paved the way for a new trend of healthy juices and energy drinks like the popular Sobe drinks. I remember when my mom and I would go shopping together we would always stop at the Target in the mall and grab us a Fruitopia to share a drink and it was refreshing and nice. And Fruitopia should make a comeback because it was an interesting drink and better than Snapple in my opinion

Hi, Hawkee! I liked fruitopia. I agree their ols commercials were weird. They were trying to capture the teen market. I bet they would be popular today, but they probably would not have any sugar in them. I don't know why sugar has such a bad rap now. Probably cuz everybody is so fat and want to blame something for it.

I believe I saw one ad before a screening of John Cleese's Fierce Creatures, and to hear Cocteau Twins blasting out of the theater sound system along with the kaleidoscope of color was quite a surprise and.. surreal! The two songs they composed for the ad campaign were released shortly after as free downloads on the band's website, alongside one of their last, ever, singles called "Touch Upon Touch".
Hoo-boy.. That was a long time ago! |
