"Black Velvet" was performed by Allanah Myles..

lol- I read the subject line on this post and now I have that song stuck in my head.

Another true 1 hit wonder: Falco- I think he is less known than Allanah. I think Black Velvet was on a few soundtracks while Falco was only known for Rock Me Amadeus.

Ah, I had it backwards. I thought Falco did the German version and then After the Fire translated it and did the cover. This is scary I know all these old one hit wonders names and groups. I was a big 80's music freak in middle school. LOL

Wait, you may be right. Maybe Falco did it first... I thought the After The Fire version came out a few years befroe Falco's version.
I'm confused.
Now I'll never get to sleep!

Good call on After The Fire...I thought that was the name of the group.

Wait, let me see if I got my years straight. I think Der Kommisaar came out before Rock Me Amadeus. I think RMA came out in 1986. I want to say Falco's version of Der Kommissarr came out in either 1982 or 1983. Wait, maybe Falco's came out in '82 and After the Fire's came out in '83.

I'm curious now. I've got to look this up.

I know that Rock Me was on the Falco 3 album, but wasn't sure that Der Kommisaar was on that album. I checked cdnow which wasn't very much help. I found out that Der Kommisaar wasn't on that album, but Falco 3 was released in 86. That still doesn't answer our question though.

Who would have thought that 80's music would be so confusing.

Give Martha Quinn a call, maybe she knows...

You got that right. I'm going to do some more research tonight on it. I asked one of my friends and he only remembered Rock Me Amadeus. He had never heard of either versions of Der Komissaar.

That is an idea all in itself. Martha just might know.

Default the answers....hopefully correct

Alright, I was just browsing through some websites trying to find answers to the trivia questions that I've racked my brain for during the last few hours.

Rock Me Amadeus~1986

~Part where I discovered the answer~_________________A bomb killed 2 G.I.'s in a West Berlin disco, Alabama Governor George Wallace said he was retiring, "Police Academy 3" was No. 1 at the box office, Pierce Brosnan was TV's "Remington Steele," and Falco topped the charts with "Rock Me Amadeus." All these happened in April of what year? Source: Dateline Timeline - NBC

B) 1986
__________________________________________________

Der Kommisaar~After the Fire- 1982

Der Kommisaar~ Falco~ 1982

This post gave me an idea on a new post idea for the boards. We've talked about our favorite cds and all that jazz. What about a post for the cds in our collection that would embarass the hell out of us if someone found it we had it.
That might be an interesting conversation. Just might be.

I was surprised too about both coming out in 82. I had most of it right during my estimating post. I fried my brain last night thinking of the years those songs came out. I do need a break now. lol

What about another go at it? Who's another really rare one hit wonder? Tracey Ullman- Can't think of the song, but the video is her in a supermarket. Anybody care to estimate what year that one is from?

The Tracey Ullman song was "They Don't Know About Us," I'd say sometime around 1985?

Great one hit wonder song which aired in the early days of MTV
a song by Tom Shilling called "Major Tom."

I was at a bar (big shocker) Sunday night, and I played this song on the jukebox. A confused crowd at the bar wondered what the heck this song was. Finally, one guy at the end of the bar said to me "Dude! I remember this song! Man, are we old!"

Ah, I love New York...
