With the release of Barbie The Movie on July 21st to honor the movie's release here is one commercial that marked a milestone in Barbie history,
In 1989 Ralston/Purina debuted Breakfast With Barbie cereal that was the first ever food featuring Barbie and had an awesome commercial to match. The commercial begins with two girls at Barbie's house who ring her doorbell and the door magically opens to a table set with bowls of the cereal. While the girls eat the cereal Ken's car pulls up and takes the girls to school and Barbie winks her eyes at the girls. Each Breakfast With Barbie cereal box featured a different 1989 Barbie doll pictured with a bowl of the cereal along with either an activity or a cardboard playset on the back of the box and the debut box had a cardboard vanity set for a Barbie doll that a parent could make for a child. Despite a big seller and a huge following Breakfast With Barbie cereal was discontinued in 1991 with a Diamond Dazzle Scope as the final prize which enabled people to enter a contest to win a actual diamond. I remember being four years old when this cereal debuted on shelves and my grandfather brought some for me as a surprise breakfast treat for me and it tasted like Fruity Pebbles and it was great. I wonder why there hasn't been any more Barbie themed cereals on shelves today because it would be a hit with kids
