TV Facts from January 1975 to June 1975
Started as a NYC play that was very successful featuring Conchata Ferrell who recreated her stage role for TV
The show brought sexual innuendo and racy dialogue to the home screen. The setting of the show was based in the lobby of a aging hotel with a Missing E in the hotel sign that was never replaced Two familiar faces on the show were Richard Musar who would go on to play David on One Day at a time 6 months later. Charlotte Rae from Different Strokes was also a cast member. Conchata Ferrell made an appearance on Maude a year before she started Hot L Baltimore The show made its debut on Jan 24, 1975 on ABC at 9pm in between Rockford Files and The Odd Couple on Friday Nights. The ABC stations in Baltimore, Jacksonville, Toledo, Atlanta, Louisville, and Fort Wayne decided not to air the show ABC executives were concerned about the ratings after the first episode but reminded themselves Maude and All in the Family were also slow starters The show was in the top 22 in March of 1975 and but fell to 54th place by April The last new show was aired on April 25, 1975 and ABC aired repeats from May 2nd to June 6th 1975 Cancellation was announced on May 7, 1975 Battle Creek Enquirer, Feb 6, 1975 Dayton Daily News, Jan 24, 1975 Complete TV Directory of Network TV and Cable shows Fort-worth Telegram, April 25, 1975 The Baltimore Sun, May 7 1975 |
