Default Painful Memories, Painful Times (CD/Nate Fic)

Painful Memories, Painful Times
A TD Fan Fiction
by KatBen

She sat on her bed, distanced from the present time. As the memories and actions of that
night played through her head once again, she started to cry. Everything memory was as
vivid as the night in which it happened. She wanted to scream, she wanted to tell him no one
more time, but she couldn’t. And she broke down crying. Knowing the only thing that would
truly help her would be talking, she wondered about who to call. There were several people,
her therapist, Captain, a few others, but one name stuck out in her mind...Nathan Basso.

She looked at her phone, picked it up, and dialed the number. It was 1:37 AM, and he’d kill
her for calling so early. But she needed to talk to someone, she needed five minutes to cry
while someone listened.
“Hello.” A groggy voice on the other end said.
“Can I please speak with Nate Basso.” Her voice was trembling, and she felt as if she’d start
crying all over again. She had regained her composure enough to handle what was happening.
“This is he.”
“Nate, this is CD.” She paused as she forced back the tears that were threatening to roll
down her face, “I...I need to talk.”
He knew it had to be important, if CD would call someone at 1:40 AM, “CD, what’s wrong?”
“I...I...I, can you come over?” She managed to say as one lonely tear ran down her cheek.
“Yeah, I’ll be there as soon as possible, okay?”
“That’s okay. Just, please don’t take too long.” CD sounded as if she would break down any
minute, and Nate was worried.
“I won’t CD, I’ll be there in 15 minutes at the most.”
“Thank you.” She said, before that one lonely tear turned into several tears that she didn’t
bother to wipe away.
“Bye CD.”
“Bye.” Was all she managed to get out before the tears ran and she couldn’t tell what was
happening.

Nate hung up the phone, threw on some decent clothes, jeans and a long sleeved tee, and got
in his car. Within ten minutes, he had arrived at CD’s house and was running up to the door.
When he got to her door, he impatiently rang the doorbell and knocked a few times before
CD slowly opened the door.

Nate was seeing her in a way he’d never seen her before, the person he knew as strong, who
he’d never seen cry, was facing him with red eyes and a tear-stained cheek. She motioned
for him to come in and she led him to a couch. Both sat down and Nate waited for her to
talk.

After a few minutes of silence, Nate began to speak, slowly as to not to disturb her, “CD,
what’s going on? Did something happen?”
CD nodded her head.
“What?”
“It...it...” She stopped. It was all too hard.
“It’s okay,” Nate said softly, “Take your time. Don’t go too fast.”

Suddenly a cell phone started ringing, and it was CD’s. She had put it on the end table next
to the couch before going to bed, and she had obviously forgotten to turn it off, “Hello?”
“I know where you are, I know who you are with, I know everything you don’t want me to
know. Yes, CD, I believe you know who this is. Fourteen years tonight...honey, and I think I’m
ready for more! Don’t worry, I’ll wait for a while.”
“Why...why are you doing this to me, and how’d you get my cell number?”
“I can’t and won’t reveal my sources, but I know everything CD. I know everything.”
“Please...just leave me alone.”
“Be smart Candace, and don’t tell anyone anything. Not the cops, especially the pretty guy
with you. Bye Candace, until next time.”

She hung up and started to sob. Nate took her in his arms and let her cry. It was 2:30 AM
before she calmed down enough to talk.
“CD, who called?”
“No one.”
She was stubborn, and he knew it, “C’mon, I heard you and watched you with that call. You
were scared. And someone got your cell number who you hadn’t given it to. Someone is doing
something to you that you don’t want.”
CD looked at him, she figured if she told anyone, the man would do something to Nate, “It
was nothing. I just need to get to sleep.”
Nate just gave her a look. He wasn’t going to let her claim that ‘it was nothing’ because it
was, “CD, it wasn’t nothing, it was something. Don’t tell me that nothing’s wrong. I’ve never
seen you like this, and I don’t know how to get you to open up. You call me and say you want
to talk, and then you cry, get a phone call you won’t tell me about, and claim that ‘it was
nothing.’ And you tell my you just need sleep. Something’s up, and I want to know what.”

CD debated telling him about the call and about what had made her cry so hard. But she
didn’t want Nate to get hurt. She cared about him, a lot. And that’s why she trusted him so
much. She knew he wouldn’t tell anyone anything if she didn’t want him to tell. But she just
couldn’t risk it, not this time.
“Don’t tell me details if you don’t want to, but give me a hint.”
“Nate, I can’t. Just go home, I probably won’t be at work this week, just go home.”
“Why?” He wanted to stay, he wanted to help her through whatever this was, “Why are you
trying to get me to leave now?”
“Just, go.” CD told him, she stood up, walked to the door and opened it. It was 2:50 AM, and
she wanted him to leave. She didn’t want him in any trouble.

“Fine. But I’ll still listen any time if you need me to.” Nate told her as he walked out the
door and got into his car.

Okay, so i haven't been around for a while thanks to Yankee Girl, but I'm gonna add a lil while i'm sittin in computer...i only have about fifteen minutes til lunch! SCORE!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
CD watched through the window until he got in his car and drove away, then she collapsed on the couch and cried until she fell asleep. Although it wasn't htat peaceful, she had nightmares like she did with the weeks after her rape. And everytime she'd wake up, dripping in cold sweat, she'd want to call Nate and bring him over and make him help her. But she would always stop herself, she wouldn't let anything happen to him, and if she told, something would. What, she didn't know, but it would be something.

She finally got to sleep and made it for a complete four hours, and she woke up to her home phone, not cell, ringing. She went and picked it up, "DeLorenzo."
"CD, it's Nate, where are you?"
"I fell asleep on the couch, slept in, didn't hear the alarm I guess. I'll be there in about twenty minutes, okay?"
"If you want to, you could just stay home, I'll tell cap you're sick or soemthing."
"I'm coming in, see ya in twenty."

She hung up the phone and went to get dressed.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
