I don't listen to much 50s or 60s music, so I don't really have a favorite band from those eras, though I do like some of the music.
So, excluding those: 1970's: #1 is definetly Aerosmith, with Heart a close second. 1980's: Madonna. Not really a band. So if I had to pick a band...it might be The Police or Culture Club. 1990's: Guns N Roses. I also like Live. 2000's: Too soon to judge for sure, but front runners are: Aerosmith (having produced in my opinion one of their best albums since the 70s, and promising more good stuff soon); Nickelback; Linkin Park |

I'll start with the '60's because the '50's was a little before my time:
60's: The Beatles. the Stones, the Who, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Steppenwolf. Bob Dylan had a lot of great songs. It's easy to say the first two but when I went back to listen to them, it was amazing to hear how original and ahead of their time they were. There was so much good guitar back then. 70's: Black Sabbath, KISS, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, Led Zeppelin, Ted Nugent, Deep Purple, UFO, Van Halen, the Scorpions (before they got major popular in this country, they had a great guitar player named Uli Roth), Judas Priest (saw them open for UFO in 1979!!), Jethro Tull and Yes. The decade I started playing guitar. I was so starved for rock and metal because disco was so stinkin' huge... 80's: AC/DC, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, U2, Motley Crue, Cinderella...I have so many bands to name....especially Metallica and Megadeth, and it got to the point I missed great bands like Winger, Warrant, White Lion and Whitesnake in the 90's. I realized I wanted to play guitar (again) after seeing Metallica perform on the Grammies in 1989. 90's: Alice in Chains, early Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, King's X, Pantera. Testament, Dream Theater, some Smashing Pumpkins. |

I forgot from the "double-zero" decade: uh...
My old metal fave from the 80's.......... Nothing grabs me as much today. I like Nickelback and Creed, and Soulfly. Disturbed. Stained. I got to keep my ears open and not rely on the radio. |
