Default Today is longest day of the year.

Today (Wednesday) is officially the first day of summer in northern hemisphere as summer solstice occurs at 10:57 a.m. Eastern time. It is also the longest day of year in terms of daylight. Or if you want to get technical, today the North Pole will be tilted at its maximum direction toward the sun

It occurred to me when I finally woke up and the Sun was shining and I felt pretty good, it's "first day of Summer".... It has been a long cold dank winter,

Yes! I love it each time when sun comes up at almost an half hour before 6am & sun sets at close a half hour after 8pm every year. Happy Summer Solistice!!!

In the south, we really don't look forward to summer since we have to deal with extreme heat mix with humidity. Heat I can deal with like take a cold shower. But humidity is hard to deal with, especially if you are outdoors.

If you think about it, the actual sunrise time is an half hour before 5am

I dislike Summer due to the heat and bright sunlight. I'm more of a sweater weather person, a cloudy day type. I prefer dark and cozy over light and bright and hot. My favorite season is Autumn with hot cocoa and bulky knit sweaters.

Same here ! My favorite month is October. Oct. all the way through May I like! Living in Southern Califirnia with mild winters and even getting some warm sunny days than. I enjoy sitting out in the sun or going to a park when it is 65 to no hotter than 75 and sunny .Or I enjoy chilly, rainy cozy weather! I hate 80 to 100 degree weather!

I'd like to just skip over summer ! Plus I'm old and grumpy. 4th of July doesn't thrill me , and loud fireworks are so annoying . I much prefer Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Plus it is really annoying staying light out past 8PM !!

Oh and not to mention the high electric bill running the AC a lot.

So the only good thing about the summer is going to the beach. But not really even that, being I hardly ever go. And back to being in Southern California you can go to the beach year round on nice days. And same with BBQ ing . It's a treat in the summer in colder climate states, but we can do that year round too! So basically summer is just hot and miserable IMO !

^ I agree with every single point you made, including being old and grumpy which I am.

Interestingly, the electric bills will be the highest in the winter here in Sweden.
It is not very common to have an AC in your house, but you will need heating in the winter.
