Real life ages vs Good Times ages?

John Amos and Jimmie Walker were only 8 years apart and played Father and Son although James certainly looked about 20 years older than JJ.

Esther Rolle and John Amos were about 20 years apart with Esther being older than John. In the show, Florida was YOUNGER than James! In fact, only the man playing Henry Evans, James's Father was a couple of years older than Esther Rolle.

Shirley Hemphill was 8 years OLDER than Tamu Blackwell. Edna was OLDER than Roz!

Jimmie Walker was a whopping 11 years older than JJ! Jimmie looked incredibly young for his age when he was playing JJ at FIRST, but by the final Season, it was clear Jimmie looked about 30 when JJ was supposed to be about 21.

Bernadette Stanis was about 21 playing 15 year old Thelma!

Janet Dubois and Esther Rolle were about 20 years apart, but they were around the same age on the show.

Janet Dubois is only about 2 years older than Jimmie Walker, but on the show, she's a mother figure to him and is supposed to be about 20 years older than him!


Chip Hurd is about 4 years younger than Jimmie, and only one year older than Bernadette Stanis but on the show, she's about 7 years older than them

Only Janet Jackson and Ralph Carter were roughly the same age on the show as they were in real life, but Penny mysteriously aged 3 years in one Season, because Janet Jackson hit puberty kind of hard in one year. In 1977 she looked about 10, but in 1978, she looked about 13, so they had to age her up by three years.

JJ was coming out of the bathroom all dressed up and Willona took a look at JJ admiring him and said:"If only you were 20 years older."

But other sources say Janet was actually born in like 1935, which would add up more that she would be 39 in in 1974 because she looks closer to 39 than 29.

Her actual date of birth is 8-5-32, she was 87 when she died. there is a copy of her passport linked in 2-20-20 post by TMC.

I refuse to believe that. Wikipedia said she was either born in 1932, 1938, or 1945. I’ll go with 1938.

There's a copy of her passport in the 2/20/20 post by TMC. In 1987 her 36 year old son died, he was born in 1951 (she would have only been 13 at the time if she was born in 1938).

There's no way her birthdate is 1945 if her Son was born in 1951. There's not too many 6 year olds giving birth. (Although there was a two year old who gave birth, WHAT That story was beyond unbelievable. There were so many things wrong with that story. Someone having sex with a two year old, her getting pregnant before she even got a period, , her 2 year old body carrying a healthy baby to full term, her giving birth at two!
