I remember as a child proper discipline in the home and at school, going to church then Sunday school, mother mainly at home (and part of a two-parent family), respect for teachers and neighbours, playing games after school and climbing trees, not sitting in front of a screen, black and white television until the 1970s unless you went to the pictures (cinema) on Saturday nights, the only occasion when I remember eating junk food, but then people were of normal weight and not obese as more are today (not myself thankfully).
I could go on.. |

Pez dispensers
Playing outside in the summer until the street light across from the beach came on Climbing very high in trees in times when parents didn't know exactly where you were The operator who asked for your number when you made a toll call Telephone exchanges with names Learning to drive a stick shift on my uncle's Beetle in hilly La Jolla, Calif. Being given paregoric for an upset stomach, and putting mercurochrome on an cut finger My mother setting ground beef out on the counter to thaw Having a Tastykake butterscotch krimpet for dessert at lunch Riding bikes to school with no worry of them being stolen Playing with cap guns Learning to read, write, and do arithmetic in school--and that's all--in the early years Penicillin was the cure all at the doctor's office, where an office visit was probably around three dollars And gas was 29 cents a gallon At all businesses a person answered the phone, and virtually all businesses were local or at most regional Bright green hula hoop |

Playing Dodge Ball in high school.
Local TV stations signing off at 2:00 am with national anthem. Grocery stores stocking cigarettes cartons on the shelf next to food items. Tuning to radio station WLS AM 890 in Chicago (receive this station only at night) to hear the best Rock music of 70s. |

We played Bombardment with a soccer ball; it hurt way more than the typical kickball from elementary school.

The Fairer elections in our history. The loss of 5&10's, to so many this was a big loss. Stevea, reading your almost page, exhausted me, so I had to stop. |

A local burger joint called Sweet 'n Cream and a snow cone stand Ethel's Snow Cones. I would love to taste anything from those two places again! I just need a time machine to the 80's.
