My favorite spin offs are The Jeffersons, Maude and Green Acres as well. They're the ones that seemed to have held up the best.

My favorite movie to TV adaptations are Alice, The Odd Couple, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and a show that was a ripoff of Ferris Bueller's Day Off but did it better than the actual adaptation, Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

My favorites:

Happy Days - (From "Love American Style" episode "Love And The Happy Days") + its own spinoffs "Laverne and Shirley" and "Mork and Mindy").

The Andy Griffith Show - (From "The Danny Thomas Show" episode "Danny Meets Andy Griffith") + its own spinoffs "Gomer Pyle USMC" and "Mayberry RFD".

Green Acres (From "Petticoat Junction")

Frasier (From "Cheers")

Flo (From "Alice")

Archie Bunker's Place (From "All In The Family")

A Different World (Season 1 only) (From "The Cosby Show")

Empty Nest (From "The Golden Girls")

Benson (From "Soap")

The Facts Of Life (From "Diff'rent Strokes")

Young Sheldon (From "The Big Bang Theory")

FROM MOVIES TO BETTER TV SHOWS

MASH
The Courtship Of Eddie's Father
Dobie Gillis

Many are saying that Green Acres was a spin off from Petticoat Junction. I'm not sure if that's the case. The main characters in Green Acres Oliver and Lisa Douglas were not on Petticoat Junction preceeding the start of Green Acres. There was no story/episode on Petticoat Junction indicating anything about Green Acres before Green Acres first aired.

I would suggest that Green Acres and Petticoat Junction had many cross over episodes especially the first season of Green Acres. Just like Petticoat Junction was not spun off from the Beverly Hillbillies. There too there were cross over episodes. Additionally all three Show converged for a Thanksgiving episode of the Beverly Hillbillies.

Now Gomer Pyle USMC was a spin off from the Andy Griffith Show since Gomer was a character on Andy Griffith Show and there was an episode specifically focused on Gomer goinh in the Marines. Yet The Andy Griffith Show was a back door pilot from The Danny Thomas Show/Make Room For Daddy and not a spin off. Same with The Joey Bishop Show. Both of those shows had one episode on Make Room For Daddy. Those episodes were not part of an ongoing storyline just something to set up those shows.

There also was a sitcom called " Nurses" that came from Empty Nest. I'm not sure if it was a spin off or came from a back door pilot. I don't remember that show that well.

Yet with Empty Nest there was an episode on the Golden Girls about a couple who became empty nesters. There was no real connection with what became Empty Nest. Plus that episode would have been considered a back door pilot since the episode had nothing to do with the Golden Girls nor were the characters on that episode appear on any other episodes of the Golden Girls.

I wonder if Laverne and Shirley was the most successful spin-off. I'm thinking it was. It was a better show than Happy Days.

Then again, Young Sheldon has done well.

MASH indirectly gave us Trapper John M.D. I don't recall many references to the Korean War on Trapper John M.D.

MASH gave us Aftermash and almost Walter ( Starring Gary Burghoff)
