I have a confession to make. My REAL name isn't Janice. It's Karen, and I'm disgusted that my name is being used as an insult. WHY isn't is this Negative Karen fad over by now? Fads are supposed to last like a year at the most and then be done with. I can't believe my name is being used as a derogatory insult, especially as it used to be a popular and well loved name most of my life. I'm surprised the negative Karen fad didn't end YEARS ago. How is it still in fashion to insult people named Karen?

I have no clue on this Karen, guess not my generation. As for the OP, I've heard from others here on your name, I quit even wondering anymore.

Like a lot of modern language, I find the “Karen” saying extremely annoying because of what you have mentioned. I looked it up and there are about 1.1 million people in the United States with this name.
The question is, how many want your name associated with this? I would go nuts if my name was. |

I'm surprised no one has seen the similarities between this "Karen" phenomenon and the Star Trek episode, "Way to Eden," when the space hippies insulted everyone as a "Herbert." Star Trek was really ahead of its time calling out such stupidity.
I don't think it's faded, because if you noticed, it seems as if the internet and modern culture just seems to be stuck in a rut about everything. There are a lot of things that should've become passé ages ago but just keep going on and on and on... |

![]() Like you pointed out, 1.1 Million people in the United States have my name and each and everyone of us must be offended that our name is being used as an insult. The name being used as an insult should have been a name that basically NOBODY has like Broomhilda.

I believe the so-called Karen fad will be around for some time. It reminds me of OC for Orange County, CA. That came about from a short-lived popular TV show in the 90s. What was wrong with it? I live in Orange County & no one called it the OC before that time. No one. I still hear it nowadays because local radio & TV are still required to call it that by their powers that be. I hate it and refuse to use it but someday I believe it will fade away.
