I'm a huge Steven Spielberg fan. He directed 4 of my top 10 favorite movies. When I heard that he made a movie based on his life and it received stellar reviews, I really was looking forward to seeing it. So, we watched The Fabelmans a couple of nights ago and I pretty much hated it. I couldn't believe it was a Steven Spielberg move. All the characters were hateable. It was long, slow moving and completely boring. Astoundingly, I see it was nominated for a slew of awards, including the Academy Award for best picture.
If I really want to see a movie I try to avoid any advanced knowledge of it so I don't anticipate anything and the movie just happens for me. Ten minutes into the movie I began to not like it but I stuck it out because it was Steven Spielberg. So this morning I'm reading how many standing ovations this received at film festivals and how much everyone loved it and I just can't believe it. |
