Newhart. Not only a great show but Bob meows for the MTM closing credit!

I didn't realize how extensive collection of shows MTM was responsible for. It actually rivaled Desilu.

Mary Tyler Moore show was the best of the bunch. What made that series so great was the ensemble.

Rhoda was pretty good the first two seasons although I didn’t much care for the husband. But when the husband was dropped, this is when the show lost it and went downhill. But it still wasn’t a bad show, enjoyed the mother and the sister dynamic.

Phyllis having her own show was sort of a mistake since the character is sort of grating to begin with. Loved the old lady in her 90’s. She had no F’s to give. But other than that, not a great show and only lasted two seasons. It was notable that it starred Barbara Colby who was mysteriously and senselessly murdered in a parking lot outside of an acting seminar, shot with another man also shot and died.

The Bob Newhart Show (1972-78), hands down for me.

As to “Phyllis,” I never got it—the idea, I mean. The character herself was on VERY FEW Mary Tyler Moore episodes as it was! Rhoda, yeah—she established herself quite well before getting a show of her own. Rhoda had much more of a personality than Phyllis, as well.

The Miami area never received the syndicated “Lorenzo and Henrietta Music Show.” At that time, Lorenzo was only known as the voice of Carlton. His name appeared, of course, in The Bob Newhart Show credits. Seriously—with those relatively obscure names—did ppl originally think it was intended to feature “music”? Haha

BTW: Lorenzo was the absolutely PERFECT (purr-fect?) Garfield!

WKRP in Cincinnati best sitcom with Newhart close second. St. Elsewhere best MTM drama hands down.

For me, I would have to say Lou Grant and The White Shadow. Not really a fan of the others.

Mary Tyler Moore in first place, with Rhoda and Tony Randall tied for second. Bob Newhart and WKRP tied for third place, and Newhart in fourth. Loved Cloris Leachman, but never cared for the Phyllis series. St. Elsewhere as favorite MTM drama.

WKRP in Cincinnati bar none. It should have lasted longer than it did.

Mary Tyler Moore Show was the best program. Rhoda was decent but the writers sort of lost their way trying to write her as a married woman and the. Had the character get a divorce. Then the show had a fall, the viewers didn’t want her to divorce apparently.

Phyllis in my opinion wasn’t very good. The best part was the elderly grandmother in law. She was pretty hilarious and saved the show from being less funny than it was.

Rhoda, I didn't think was funny. She was good as comic foil on MTM show, but on her own not so much. Getting her married was a disaster. Phyllis was awful.
