Another MASH historical/cultural error (Bo Diddley reference)
Watching the early ep. where Radar was hospitalized undergoing rabies treatment after getting bit by a dog, the writers included a historical error.
When Hot Lips is reading to Radar a letter a girl wrote Radar, the girl, in the letter, asks Radar what is his favorite music, song, etc. The letter writer says she likes "Pretty Thing" by Bo Diddley.
Now, a casual observer might think both the Korean War and Bo Diddley being 1950s, no mistake there.
However, it sounded odd to me, as Bo Diddley, while he certainly performed music before the advent of rock & roll in 1954-1955, he wasn't known nationally and the "teen music" hadn't become popularized until 1955 with Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Rock Around The Clock.
The Korean War ended in 1953. The Bo Diddley song was recorded in 1955.
Quote:
"Pretty Thing" is a 1955 song written by Bo Diddley and Willie Dixon and performed by Bo Diddley. The song was Diddley's third single release through Checker Records.
"Pretty Thing" was recorded by Bo Diddley on July 14, 1955
