Recently Netflix came out and stated that season two of Monsters which Season One was about Jeffrey Dahmer is going to be about The Menendez Brothers who murdered their parents in 1989. I think most of us including myself thought it was going to be about John Wayne Gacy since Gacy was in the Dahmer series.
I am a bit disappointed because Gacy would have been a much better subject and really the Gacy story hasn’t really been exploited that much. There was a bad Brian Dehenny movie and a crappy “Gacy” film that came out in 2003. Nothing really of quality has come out of the Gacy story. To me, The Menendez story has sort of been done to death. Right after the trial there was not one but two TV movies on different networks that came out at the same time. There has been lots of specials and series on them also over the years. Several short years ago, Law and Order did an excellent miniseries on the murders and the trials with Edie Falco playing Leslie Abramson. I want a Gacy show. I will say from reading about Jeff Dahmer since the case broke over thirty years ago, I am sort of an expert on his life from all the documentaries, news shows and films about him, and frankly a lot of the Netflix Monster series got it wrong. It was well made and the guy who played Dahmer did an excellent job, so I have faith on them hiring good actors, but again, I think the story has been done to death. Lastly, for me, I think the brothers wanted their inheritance and their father got tired of their antics (and him wanting sons of more quality) that he cut them out of the will and they got angry about this and killed them and then blamed “sexual abuse” as the cause, which I think is fabricated. A lot of people online believe in the molestation charges against the father to this day. Which way will “Monster” will go in who is the monster, the murdering sons or the parents? Have to wait until next year to find out. |

There's always a possible season three or four. If they are interested in ratings, the Menendez Brothers story will give them more buzz and talk on social media. They seem to very popular with the younger TikTok crowd.
John Wayne Gacy has been dead for nearly 30 years. He can't be interviewed. I'm not sure what new information could possibly be available at this point. To say his story hasn't been exploited that much is kind of ridiculous. Netflix just released the three-part Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes last year. Peacock released the six-part John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise in 2021. Both of those are worth checking out. The Netflix series was directed by Joe Berlinger who did the Paradise Lost documentaries, which were on the West Memphis Three. |
