I contacted MeTV about the color seasons - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just contacted MeTV through their website to ask them to please consider showing the color seasons of TAGS. If a lot of us would each go to their site to contact them about this, then maybe they would do so!

They have a good opportunity to do that with Summer of Me coming up, but I doubt they will. Over the last few years, Summer of Me changes have been very minimal.

I agree, and there are no ratings months during the summer. They could easily run them; they would probably run most of the summer.

I wish him luck getting an answer from MeTV. They rarely respond to any suggestion.

MeTV ran most of the color episodes (in the morning, I think) in 2017- six years ago, but they didn't get all the way to the end, and I don't think they even got to season 8. Since 2017, they have shown a handful of color episodes on occasion- usually just the ones they think are the most popular- the Barney Fife episodes, the Jack Nicholson episodes, etc. (If one is desperate, the DVDS are available for purchase.)

Thanks for the replies! Yeah, it would be nice if they responded, but I don't really expect a reply from MeTV; mainly wanted everyone to know that if a bunch of us contact them on their website just maybe they'll get the message that people do want to see the color seasons also!

Yeah, if I could find the color seasons for a good price in a used media store like we have around here, I'd buy them.

The DVDs can be bought used through Amazon.com for less than $35 total for all three.

The problem with the color years has been covered here on many occasions, they aren't funny, and there are a lot of very bad episodes. There are about two dozen which are salvageable, so a best of the rest virtual 6th season could be cobbled together to see if any viewer interest exists. TV Land was showing the color episodes in the recent past (the last year or so), does anyone know how they performed? If they didn't do well there is no way METV will touch them.

A Weigel Broadcasting Co. channel in my area airs the color season episodes at times. Of course Weigel owns MeTV.

Most recently they aired the final broadcast episode from Season 8 ("Mayberry RFD,"), so I'll be watching to see if they go back to Season 1 -- or if they stay with the color eps, either randomly or beginning with episode 1 of Season 6.

I'll likely catch one this upcoming Saturday morning.

The local CBS affiliate where I live is really good about showing the color episodes. I believe the episode that aired earlier this week was the one where Sam runs for town council. I think that might be Ken Berry's first episode. I have found many of the color episodes to be very good. Andy seems to be not as angry in the seasons 7/8 episodes. Or that what it seems to me.

So local stations can pick and choose which shows and which seasons of said shows to air on locally owned air time? You're lucky your station shows them regularly.

Yes, channel 4.2 shows them here daily 8-9 am. They air all 8 seasons.

I think I remember from when Paramount had a "Syndication Bible" that everyone could view, TAGS is not a divided show like some others. So any station/channel buys the whole series. In that case MeTV just runs the b/w episodes, eats the loss, and makes it up with increased primetime advertising.

At least TV Land shows them once in awhile.

It was my local station that was showing the color episodes here (Columbus, Georgia), there seems to be a huge fan base down here in the Deep South, almost everyone seems familiar with the characters and stories.

You might check out the media room of your local library, the one here has a complete collection of the DVD set (no Mayberry RFD though). Perhaps your library has at least a few seasons.

I know there's a local station that shows all the episodes, including the color episodes, but I'm having trouble catching them.

Possibly after decades of local broadcasting of TAGS, the local channels have let it end.
