I was going to post this on April 1st as an April fools joke.
But what if Antenna TV did this to their programming? Would you watch it? Would it be something that would stay around for a while? Here's what I had planned to post on April 1st. Antenna TV will finally be making “TV How it was Meant to Be “ To help fill the void created from Decades TV ending it’s run Antenna TV will attempt to create a channel for those who remember how TV was years ago. Starting Monday May 1st they will no longer credit crunch and will run the programs for the most part unedited. Additionally, shows that originally had sponsors will have those sponsors original commercials aired if the products still exist and are currently legal to air. So cigarette commercials will not be part of this arrangement. For episodes that cigarettes were the sponsors the alternate sponsors would be uses. So for example, all of the episodes of The Jack Benny Program that Lucky Strike sponsored either current Lever Brothers or State Farm ads would run instead. The only editing will be eliminating the in program commercials such as Don Wilson talking about Lucky Strike or The Sportsman singing a commercial for the cigarettes. The sponsors will have the option to superimpose images or text of the current versions of the products when running the original commercials. If a program didn’t have sponsors when first aired then they will be offered to advertisers for a single “brought to you by” arrangement. We might end up with some Medicare supplement companies as sponsors but their ads won’t be as long as they are currently. The shows that will have their original sponsors are: Burns and Allen – Carnation and B.F. Goodrich Jack Benny Program- Lever Brothers and State Farm Bachelor Father- American Home Products Corporation (Anacin, Dristan and Chef Boyardee) Father Knows Best- Scott Paper Company Dennis the Menace- Kellogg and Best Foods (Skippy/Bosco Chocolate Syrup) Hazel – Ford, Lever Brothers and Proctor & Gamble My Favorite Martian- Kellogg I Dream of Jeannie- Colgate-Palmolive and Procter & Gamble Bewitched -Quaker Oats ,Chevrolet, Kodak, Bristol-Myers and Oscar Mayer That Girl- Armstrong Flooring, Excedrin and Clairol Three’s Company- Timex Yes, Timex actually did sponsor Three’s Company . Go to the 8:30 mark on this video and see. https://youtube.com/watch?v=QmvAljeytgI&feature=share Now unfortunately to help supplement this Antenna TV will air infomercials from 4-6am EST. But being able to get unedited shows plus original commercials it’s worth the couple of hours of paid TV. Antenna TV should be commented for owning up to it’s slogan of “ TV how it was meant to be “. Now it will be. |

Nick at Nite sort of did this many years ago. You know, back when they had intelligent, imaginative people running things, instead of the robots in charge now. They took a network night from the 1960s and programmed it on N@N.
It would have been great to do it just like it was, on the network. Complete, bumpers, time signal tones, everything. Even a "local" commercial at the program break. But it wasn't THAT good! |

Yes this would be great. Especially if they eliminated the credit crunch. That would definitely bring me back. But sadly that probably won’t happen. At least Catchy seems to be a good alternative.

Catchy also credit Crushes. Luckily most all of the shows are available on free streaming services with no crunching, full episodes, and fewer commercials.

Love the idea!
Although antenna tv seems to be more focused on late 1970’s & 1980’s & 1990’s programming while looking at its current Evenings Primetime and late/overnight Schedule. It seems like their other focus is getting Rewind TV off the ground. Props to them though airring the My Favorite Martin Earth Day Marathon. |

So far it appears Mary Tyler Moore and Odd Couple are the only shows they crunch. All the others have the full credits.
