Valerie Bertinelli Gets Teary After Critical Comment About Her Weight: 'Where's the Compassion?'
Published on July 9, 2021

Valerie Bertinelli is speaking out after reading a disparaging comment about her weight.

In an emotional video on Thursday, the Food Network star — who has been open about her complicated relationship with food and self-image — wrote that while she "was going through some recipes online" she "made the mistake of reading the comments."

"Someone...decided to point out that I need to lose weight," she wrote. "You're not being helpful."

"When you see somebody who has put some weight on, my first thought is that person is obviously going through some things, because if I could lose the weight and keep it off, I would," she said. "But since I haven't been successful with that my whole entire life, at 61 I'm still dealing with [it]." (,,,)

Default Valerie Bertinelli Gets Candid About Her Weight And Mental Health

Valerie Bertinelli gets candid about her weight and mental health

By Lisa Respers France, CNN
Published 10:00 AM EDT, Fri June 10, 2022

CNN-Valerie Bertinelli says she hasn’t gotten on a scale since she wrote her memoir “Enough Already.”

The actress, writer and Food Network host got emotional talking about weight and body image during her appearance Thursday on “Today with Hoda & Jenna.”

“I’m looking at the monitor and trying not to judge myself too harshly right now because I know that I’m still holding on to this weight because it’s protecting me right now,” she said tearfully. “Because I’m going through a lot of challenges, a lot of heartbreak, a lot of crazy stuff going on in my life right now.”

Bertinelli recently filed for divorce from Tom Vitale, whom she married in 2011, and has been grieving the loss of her former husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen, who died of cancer in 2020.

She said it all began in 2016 when her father was dying and things have snowballed since then.

But Bertinelli said she knows it will get better.

“I know this weight is protecting me right now and when I get healthier internally and emotionally that weight will come off,” she said. “I know I’m treating my body better. I’m drinking less alcohol, I’m eating less sugar, I’m putting more vegetables in my body, but my body is doing this for a reason … because it needs protection.”

The former “One Day At A Time” star said she wasn’t sharing because she wanted people to feel sorry for her.

“I’m here to say that when we reach out to people that we love, or even that we don’t, strangers even… that we don’t have to feel so alone,” she said.

Default Valerie Bertinelli Recalls ‘Finding’ Texts, Being Told She Was ‘Fat And Lazy’

Valerie Bertinelli recalls ‘finding’ texts, being told she was ‘fat and lazy’
By Riley CardozaFebruary 1, 2023 | 7:46am

Valerie Bertinelli is “healing” from a past relationship with a “narcissist,” in which she was called “fat and lazy.”

The actress told her Instagram followers on Tuesday that she is doing therapy to “get over” her trauma and discover “what made [her] tolerate the intolerable.”

The 62-year-old explained, “By searching for that, by healing that, I have just put a better life forward for myself, a more joyful, a more happy life. … I finally feel like I deserve it.”

Bertinelli clarified on her Story that she is “long over the narcissist,” adding, “I have moved on from the s–tty part, and I am going into the really, really hard part that has the most benefits to it.”

The “One Day at a Time” alum’s social media upload came shortly after she posted a video about stumbling upon shocking texts.

In Monday’s footage, Bertinelli asked herself, “Why did you let them stay after finding the texts?”

She replied, “I don’t know.”

While the Golden Globe winner did not go into detail on the alleged messages, she did take to her Story to describe battling feelings of unworthiness. (...)

The pressures of the celebs and weight issues. gotta be awful....There are some foods that if one just kept out of their mouths, they could be better..mostly White Foods.....Just do Not Tempt oneself having them in the house.....Very Possible.

Celebs and weight issues would be very, very stressful because it would be public.

The normal stresses that we all go through can effect how your body
breaks down food into energy, also known as metabolism.
Being over stressed can cause a person to overeat or over drink alcohol.

What Valerie Bertinelli went thru just added to the stress.
Those that "fat shamed" her should be ashamed of themselves,
as they were adding to that stress.

Valarie does know that she has thousands of men out there that would beat the living crap out of anyone who takes crap about her. Or Wolfgang can sit on him and play Panama on the guitar until the offender goes mad.

Default Valerie Bertinelli Posts About Weight Loss

Valerie Bertinelli Posts About Weight Loss After Cutting Back On Alcohol: 'I’m Really Starting To Love Myself'

Maria Pierides
Sat, July 1, 2023

Valerie Bertinelli is looking better than ever these days! The 63-year-old One Day At A Time actress showed off her noticeably trimmer figure in a TikTok video back in February this year, while confessing that her weight loss wasn’t actually due to a crash diet or hours upon hours of exercise, but instead, was a result of temporarily giving up alcohol for Dry January! Wow!

Valerie Bertinelli Credits Dry January For Her Impressive Weight Loss
We know what stopping drinking can do for our bodies, as evidenced by the throwback picture Jessica Simpson shared with her fans a few years ago, which was taken before she embarked on her sobriety and 100-lb weight loss journey, and Bertinelli is now the latest A-list example!

In her video, the Hot in Cleveland star said: "So, here's a nice little side effect of Dry January. These jeans that I'm wearing were so tight a few months ago that I couldn't comfortably button them. Now, they're so loose it's time for me to go down a size." She then laughed, and added, "Yeah, I like that side effect."

However, it wasn’t just the lack of alcohol that seemingly contributed to Bertinelli's 10-lb weight loss, which she also spoke about in an even more recent video, as she suggested that cutting back on sugar was also a factor when replying directly to a fan's comment.

"Just from no alcohol? Or sugar too? A battle but one we can win," one fan commented, to which she replied, "I cut back a LOT on sugar." Another fan said they did "Sober October AND Dry January AND way less sugar," but experienced "very little weight loss." However, the fan added that they were "feeling healthier," which inspired Bertinelli, who then replied: "Oooh, Sober October. I like it. I may also do Dry July." (...)

Her son (and only child) is overweight. Kid looks to be over 250 lbs at least if not more. Probably has held him back from being a major rock star (Eddie once said that “Wolfie” was actually better than him).

I think we need to get off “shaming” people about their body shape. Just stop. Going to America last month, it seems that over half of people are overweight. There are a lot of factors to this, including mental health. Eating makes people feel good.

Valarie should just stick her middle finger at her distracters and say “I have (had) a very successful career in a trying business and now I am a multimillionaire. And you? I don’t think so. Go home and get your shinebox.”
