I wouldn't say they were all friends. There were alot of creative differences between the cast members. Esther Rolle and John Amos formed a strong partnership at one point against management. Rolle did leave the show due to the emphasis of J.J. I'm sure that didn't exactly make Jimmy Walker all that happy.
