I was wondering what led to the creation of CATM? Most shows come from the idea of other shows or a star's personal life-Does anyone know what this show was based on?

I'm not sure where the idea of the show first originated; but the character, Chico was based alot on Freddie's stand up comedy routine, and they let Freddie incorporate some of his catch phrases and stories into the show. Maybe one of the other members has more of an idea where the idea originated, or even if it was based on another show, (like Three's Company).
Soloman, I peeked at your profile You and Freddie Prinze share the same birthdate! (He was born in 1954)

I think Solomon may have more in common with Freddie Prinze than he realizes huh Karen??? Funny how that all works. You see Solomon...first you are curious about the show...the characters and how it all started...then you watch a few shows with Freddie in them. You sit there and experience his incrediable talent and how truly funny her really was...and the before you know it you are hooked.
Thanks for coming on the boards and asking all these interesting questions. One thing you might be interested in..is the fact that Freddie Prinze took a lot of heat from the Hispanic community when he first started the show because he was not Mexican but actually Puerto Rican. He was very hurt by all the awful letters he received and the bad press...but he hung in there and I heard was very concerned how his character was portrayed. He wanted to make the Hispanice community proud of his work and I think he achieved that in the end. And in turn, he opened a lot of doors for other Hispanic actors and comedians at that time. If you ever get a chance check out his comedy CD...it is worth the money. |

Solomon, if you havent seen a episode with Freddie in it, you REALLY haven't seen CATM......what was done after his passing was a poor immitation, I am sorry to say. The cast made a diligent effort, but the spark was gone. You simply MUST have seen Freddie to appreicate the show. Keep your eyes open..... someone ALWAYS posts when we notice the show is airing.
