Default Fan Questions

These are questions for fans. Here are my answers. Feel free to give your own

1. Favorite serious episode--The Lord is my Shepherd

2. Favorite comedic episode--At the End of the Rainbow

3. Favorite adventurous episode--Gold Country

4. Favorite Pa quote--"Tonight, I didn't ask the Lord to help me strike it rich; I asked him to give me the courage and strength to forget about it." (Gold Country)

5. Favorite Ma quote--"If we're wise, we never stop learning until the Lord calls us home." (Country Girls)

6. Favorite Laura quote--"Hardworking folks only smell bad to those who stick their noses in the air. But from now on, Nellie, when you stick your nose in the air with me, it's going to get punched!" (The Richest Man in Walnut Grove)

7. Favorite Nellie quote--"My home is the finest in all of Walnut Grove and if I told you how much it all costs, you'd probably faint dead away. My Pa says talking about how much things cost isn't proper. But it cost dear, I can tell you that."

8. Favorite Mrs. Oleson quote--"Nellie and Willie have just outgrown their Sunday shoes but they're as good as new. I was going to give them to the needy in Mankato but I daresay, we should give them to the needy HERE... Well I don't see how beggars can be choosers." (The Race)

9. Edwards vs. Garveys--Edwards, hands down. The Garveys are good but they just don't have the same strong array of personalities. Isaiah--rough rugged Grace--prim and proper John Jr.--quiet, wistful, melancholy, poetic Carl--feisty, strong willed, mischievous, Tom Sawyerish and sweet innocent Alicia.

10. Favorite teacher--Eva Beadle Simms

11. Favorite guest performance--John Anderson (Haunted House)

12. Favorite love story--For me it's a tie between Isaiah and Grace and John Jr. and Mary.

I liked how Isaiah decided to give God a chance and open his heart to love even though he was still hurting over the loss of his first wife and child. Even though you know they're eventually going to get together it happens so slowly and gradually that it feels real. He's the rough rugged one and she's the prim and proper librarian sort of woman so they make a great pair. I think having them divorce later on in the show was a big mistake. Probably the producers' way of trying to make the show relate to a modern audience and show support for divorcees because it was made in the 70's and 80's.

I also loved how John and Mary seemed very mature and serious for teenagers. He shows the willingness to give up his scholarship out of love for her and she gives up her engagement out of love for him so he can have the chance to cultivate his God-given talents. I think the way they tied him up later on in Times of Change and Chicago was also a big mistake.

13. Favorite opening scene--Mary and Laura rescuing the puppies in Remember Me. I liked how Mary had to summon up the courage to take the "last puppy" out of the bag only to find it was a rock.
