Mork Mindy was originally schedule to premiere on Monday, Sept 11, 1978 but ABC made changes at the last minute and schedule the show to start on Thursday, September 14, 1978. ABC decided to move Welcome Back Kotter Monday, Sept 11th instead.
The show didnt finish in the top 10 after it's premiere episode but still top 20 at #13 The show became top ten by the end of September ranking #7 By Mid October, Mork and Mindy finished #2 for the week right behind Three's Company Mork and Mindy finished higher than Three's Company the last two weeks of October with a #6 ranking both weeks while Three's Company finished #7 and #8. In November, the show was consistently in the top 10 not getting any closer to the number 1 spot. The show maintained top 10 ranking in December of 1978 In January of 1979, Mork and Mindy finished 5th, right behind Superbowl Postgame show In February of 1979, Mork and Mindy finished as the #1 show for the week ending Feb 19-25. .....Side Note...(Three's Company didnt air that week it was pre-empted for Roots) In March of 1979, Mork fell back to the 4th spot still maintaining consistency in the top 10 shows for the week In April of 1979, Mork and Mindy continued to be a top 10 show but still was unable to beat TC reruns....(Three's Company season ended in March of 1979 due to Ropers) Overall ranking for Mork and Mindy for the 1978-79 season was #3 right behind Three's Company at #2 Mork and Mindy was moved to Sunday nights in season 2 and competed with Archie Bunkers on CBS and Big Event on NBC After the first airing of both Archie Bunkers Place and Mork and Mindy in the 1979-80 season, ABP ranked higher at #17 while Mork and Mindy finished #27 By the start of October was gaining more viewers and ranked #27th again while ABP finished #36 Both shows were even by the end of October, MAM at #9 and ABP at #10 In the beginning of November of 1979, Mork and Mindy maintain the edge of Archie Bunkers Place finishing #6 while Archie Bunkers Place finished #11 By end of the November, Mork and Mindy would fall all the way to #40 while ABP was still in the top 20 at #18 After the drop in ratings in November, ABC executives decided to move the show back to Thursday Nights which took place in January The show returned back to Thursday Nights on Jan 3, 1980 and competed with Buck Rogers on NBC and the Waltons on CBS After the first airing on Thursday Nights, the show returned back to top 10 at #10 right behind Three's Company at #9 The show stayed in the top 20 throughout the month of January The show would fall out of the top 20 in February and much of the same in March of 1980. The show would be on Hiatus after March 20 1979 and not air again until May 1 1980 Mork and Mindy final ranking for the 1979-80 would be #27 At the start of season Mork and Mindy remained on Thursday Nights at 8pm The season 3 premiere was a Hour Long special and competed with a CBS and NBC movie in that time slot for that week finishing in the top 12 for the week The following week Mork and Mindy would be in the same slot as the Waltons on CBS and fell all the way to #50 after second episode The show would not reach the top 20 the remainder of 1980 falling in the 40's The show remained in the high 30's and low 40's the rest of the 1980-fi81 TV season and would final ranking would be #45 for 1981-82 season In April of 1981 ABC decided to cancel the show but Gary Marshall persuaded ABC to give the show another chance by promising changes and having Mork marry Mindy At the start of season 4 Mork and Mindy remained on Thursday and aired Oct 8 1981. The main competition for that season would be Magnum P,I on CBS The ranking after first episode of the new season was #28 out of 56 shows. The ranking after the Wedding episode that aired on Oct 15, 1981, ranked slightly higher at #24 out of 51 shows. After 3rd episode airing on Oct 22, 1981, show finished #13 for the week right above One Day at Time at #14 In November of 1981 the show's ranking stayed in between 20 and 30 In December, the show stayed below 40 for the entire month In January of 1982 the show stayed below 50 for entire month By February of 1982, it was close to being worst show on TV as it would be the 64th ranked show out of 72 Mork and Mindy was taken off the air in March and replaced with a new show called Police Squad that premiered on March 4, 1980 Mork and Mindy would not return until April 15, 1981. One viewer asked during 79-80 season did the show have different writers that season because she noticed a huge difference in the writing
