Default Did you know that Laverne was almost 40 when L&S debuted in January of 1976

I can't belivethat laverne was almost in her 40's when L&S started-They couldn't have found a younger more attractive female to play laverne?

I like what Penny Marshall brought to the show, though. What would L&S be without Laverne. She is a great actress and I her Appreciate her for that. I don't think It matters whether or not how old she is, or how she looks, Its how good she portrays her character, and what kind of skills, she has to accomplish the character.

Wasn't she born on October 15th, 1942? If so, that would make her 34 when the series started. I wouldn't say she was almost 40 because that is not true. She was in her mid-30's when the show started. But I really don't think the age matters because she was excellent at playing Laverne. To be honest I thought both Laverne & Shirley were in the 20's that is how well Penny Marshall played her character.

Btw, did you know that Lucille Ball, who played the youthful looking Lucy Ricardo, was exactly 40 years old when
I Love Lucy started?

I can't imagine a more perfect Laverne and Shirley than Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams.

She actually did look almost 40-she could not hide it at all. I looked at a Happy dAys and Laverne and Shirley crossover today and Laverne did not look right n Arnolds-she looked like someone's mother

She was nowhere near 40!

Penny Marshall was born on Oct. 15, 1943, according to an almanac I have.

Therefore, she was 32 years old in Oct., 1975... L & S premiered in Jan., 1976 so she was not yet 33 years old.

BTW, Cindy's B-date is 8-22-47; she was 28 and 1/2 when L & S began. I know for sure the day is the 22nd because I asked her in person at a celebrity autograph show!

Red face

I knew that she was in her mid 30's when she played Laverne but, so was Henry Winkler who played Fonzie. Age doesn't matter..........

Penny was PLENTY attractive.

And she was 34.

1976 - 1942 = 34.

And it's not a question of casting, Garry gave Penny and Cindy parts for a cameo appearance as a favor. They had chemistry together and the audience loved them. Simple as that.

That's not NEAR 40, that's near 30. Anything under 5 is rounded down, according to my algebra teacher.

If the show started on 1/27/76 and she was born on 10/15/42 (imdb.com gives this as her birth date) then she would have been 33 when it started. 33 and about 3-1/2 months.
