Post Jump The Shark: Bewitched.

How did Bewitched jump the shark during it's run? I think it did when Aunt Clara left...but who can stay on a series when you're dead?

Your point is very well-appreciated about Aunt Clara. She was a wonderful character who left a void that Esmerelda was never able to fill.Actualy,it was only after mid-1969 that I just quit seeing Bewitched. So I say the Shark-Jump was when Dick York left(because of illness).Dick Sergant did a good job,but never seemed to quite measure up to Dick York.

I will go out on a limb and say the show started to jump around the fourth season, even before Dick York left. The show got away from its romantic-comedy roots, and started to get very formulaic. Way too many episodes had Sam or Endora getting caught doing a spell, and then trying to pass it off as one of Darrin's new advertising campaigns.

Default Jump the Shark

I Think "Bewitched" jumped the shark when they came back from their "European" Vacation. That was when they started remaking old episodes for that entire season, same scenes, word for word. If that isn't a way to say that a show had run its course, I don't know what is. Plus, Elizabeth Montgomery was tired of her role and was a little off in her performances.

I have to agree with Richard that it jumped the shark when Dick York left. Dick York was much more animated. Dick Sargeant almost looked bored. I didn't care much for Dick Sargeant.

Default BEWITCHED

I THINK BEWITCHED JUMP THE SHARK WHEN THEY SWITCHED DARRINS. THE SHOW WAS STILL IN THE TOP 15 AFTER THE 1969 SEASON. THE RATINGS DROPPED AFTER THEY SWITCHED DARRINS. IF DICK YORK HAD STAYED THE RATINGS WOULD HAVE CONTINUED TO BE GOOD.

The show definately jumped the shark when Dick York left, although it did begin to drag down even before he left. He had severe back trouble and was often not featured in a lot of his last episodes. Those episodes are when it jumped the shark.
