Post The Original Theme Song Credits.

I was looking through my collection of ABC airings, and found alot different from it's theme song credits, then in reruns. First of all, at the end, Darrin jumps on the broomstick with Samantha, and erases the logo. Second of all, Darrin carries a cereal box through the kitchen before Samantha turns into the witch. The final of all, the end credits either have Darrin and Samantha on a broomstick or a Quaker Instant Oatmeal logo, floating in the sky. Also, all Bewitched commercials were either for cars, cereal, or foods.

Yeah, there were a lot of different versions of the credits, depending on who the sponsor was. You can find some of these on bewitched.net, and they're a lot of fun to see. I've never seen the one where Darrin jumps on the broomstick, but it sounds good.

They've eliminated one of the themes from the current syndicated episodes as well. There were three main themes during the run: the first two seasons with a full orchestra, the middle three seasons with a smaller orchestra and an ending that led directly into the sponsor information; and the last two seasons which had a reworking of the second theme, but with a few modifications to account for the credits changes.

When I saw "Bewitched" reruns in the 80s, the second theme was still used, but the soundtrack would kind of trail off before you could hear any sponsor information. Now, I've noticed that they just use the first theme for those episodes, which ends a little more gracefully. Even the episodes on video don't use the correct theme. Too bad.

If you watch Bewitched on TV LAND, you can get a good idea of how the second theme sounded (1966-1969) by listened to the end theme. The B&W opening was sweeter, slower and carried by the violins and strings. The second opening theme was faster and sharper and carried by the brass and horns.

I recently downloaded a version of the "Bewitched" theme from Sound America. I think it may be a longer variation of the first color opening theme and may have contained an visual sponsor tag. Here is the link:

I remember the rarely used theme that trails off at the end WWOR
used to use it on their bewiched versions back in the early 1990's but when the reruns ran on TBS they did not use that version at all. I kinda liked the rarely used theme because it moved more faster than the one most commonly used. I think when they updated the series and moved it off to dvd instead of tapes i think that is when they eliminated the rarely heard theme.
