She promptly joined the team as a probationary agent, after which Rachel Nichols became a series regular. Fans, though, saw Ashley as a Clarice Starling wannabe, and the mere appearance that she was a “replacement” for JJ (after A.J. Cook was dropped due to controversial budget cuts) didn’t help matters.
