Default The Truth About the Oscars

I'm not just saying this because I'm Ellen's fan but Julia Roberts didn't even come close to deserving that Oscar as much as Ellen did back in 2001 and the fact that she got it just goes to show you it doesn't matter how talented you are, it matters how good you look in a tight dress to a young audience. Ellen's performance in Requiem For a Dream (which I'm watching right now) showed she has talent and could play any character realistically. When you see Ellen in a movie you forget who she is and see her character come to life. Julia is more of a movie star, popularity based on appearance. It seems to be that the Oscars celebrates stars like Julia and basically it's a cross between a beauty and a popularity contest, not an award given to a truly talented person. What does everyone else think? By the way, I'm not saying Ellen isn't good looking I'm saying she's not as young and rediculously gorgeous as some stars out there.

I agree full-heartedly. Ellen was really good in Requiem For a Dream (well, what I saw of it) and even thought she looks... well, different in that movie, that's no reason for her to lose to Julia "I'm so popular, look @ my boobs" Roberts. They really do count it on looks. Weeeeell... @ least the Oscars do. I don't know about the Emmy's cos Bebe won twice for Cheers and she didn't look too attractive in that (although she's always pretty), yet she won. Well, I'm babbling!

Default Julia

Okay, before I say anything. This is just my opinion and I do not mean to offend anybody. Julia Roberts gets on my nerves. She annoys me. I'm done with my little rant.

I'm not a Julia Roberts fan; never have been. I can't figure out why she's so popular, but...

Anyway...

The Oscars are a popularity contest. The nominees are promoted exceedingly by their respective team support via schmoozing: dinners, complimentary gifts, etc. In other words, they are bought.

Years ago George C. Scott refused his Oscar for Patton. He didn't go to the show; he didn't want the award. Why? Because of the way that the award is won.

He did not have the same distaste for the Emmy nomination (I don't remember if he won, or what the role was) a few years later. He had more respect for the television award. The Emmy is an award for accomplishment, not schmoozing.

I hope Sanda Bullock is dragged across hot coals, have honey cover every inch of her then is thrown in a tub of fire ants and honey-happy bees, then thrown off a cliff.

I'll bet Sandra's a swell gall all in all. I just don't happen to care for her acting. I think sometimes that's just a chemistry thing, like the way some people do or don't take to one another for no apparent reason. I'll take back the "yuck" word if it'll make you feel better.
