Smile Paul Lynde - Uncle Arthur

My favorite center square on Hollywood Squares, Paul Lynde ruled the 70's with fellow Ohio comedian Jonathan Winters. Voted America's favorite comedian in 1974, Paul had 8 episodes on Bewitched. He was a great personal friend to Bill Asher and Liz Montgomery, a favorite at Hollywood parties, and a very dear, smart man. I understand that Paul attended and graduated from Northwestern U in Evanston, Ill, went on to direct a play in New York. He was a great skit comedian though he wanted to be a dramatic actor. His near sighted physician portrayal on the Munsters is a pure classic and witness to his talent. I wish he were around today, he made living in that era so enjoyable. Paul died in 1982, he is buried in Mt.Vernon Ohio next to his brother Johnny. His grave can be seen on FIND-A-GRAVE. It is very modest. His popping up in a TV or serving tray on Bewitched made his performances all the more enjoyable. He and Liz were great friends and you can tell they had great fun doing that LUCY thing, dipping chocolate covered bananas on the assembly line when Serena and Uncle Arthur decided to sample the human work world. Thank you Paul Lynde!!!!!!!!

He was also on "I Dream of Jeannie" a couple of times. Who could ever forget when Jeannie was trying to impress his character with all her master's "riches", showing him jewels and a painting by Renoir. Paul was playing an IRS agent, and I always remember him saying "A Renoir? In Cocoa Beach?"

I've always liked Paul Lynde too. He had a natural comedic timing. He is missed.

There is a biography about Paul Lynde entitled Center Square, written by Joe Florenski and Steve Wilson. It's a very interesting read, and a must for any Bewitched and/or game show fan. My former boss knows one of the authors, btw.

One of my favorite comedic actors, too. I have a question. I know that both
he and Alice Ghostley had recurring roles on Bewitched. Did they ever
appear in the same episode? That would be interesting because it seems to me that they're "cut from the same cloth" in terms of their delivery, their
personality, etc.

I don't think they did, but I could be wrong. I'm not nearly as familiar with the DS episodes as I am with the DY episodes.

I loved that scene, it's like a tribute to Lucy. I liked when he told Serena, You're acting just like a mortal Serena. Serena: That's not very nice.

I got the Paul Lynde Halloween special it's great, it has The Wizard of Oz' witch and Witchie Poo together. I also loved the interaction between him and Endora.

He also played in a couple of episodes of The Munster's as Dr. Duddley, the poor sighted Doctor.

One of these days I'll have to check out the Paul Lynde Halloween Special. I've heard you have to see it to believe it.
