Default 8 Simple Rules... now 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter

PAUL HAS HIS HANDS FULL WHEN CATE RETURNS TO WORK, BRIDGET’S NEW FLAME
TURNS OUT TO BE A HEARTBREAKER, AND HONOR STUDENT KERRY IS SUSPENDED FROM
SCHOOL, ON THE PREMIERE OF “8 SIMPLE RULES FOR DATING MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER,”
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 ON ABC

Paul Hennessy (John Ritter, “Three’s Company”), a loving and rational dad, suddenly discovers
-- after agreeing to share the duties of raising the kids when his wife, Cate (Katey Sagal, “Married…with
Children”), returns to work -- that his two darling daughters have morphed into hormonally-charged,
incomprehensible teenagers, on the series premiere of the family comedy “8 Simple Rules for Dating
My Teenage Daughter,” TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television
Network.
Editors please note: The title of this series has been changed. The new, full title is “8 Simple
Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.”
Paul had grown accustomed to Cate taking care of their son and two daughters. His job as a
sports writer kept him on the road a lot during the kids’ formative years. But when Cate decides to
return to work as a hospital nurse, Paul takes a job as a columnist and undertakes the responsibility of
helping out with the kids.
Although not new to fatherhood, Paul is just a bit rusty on day-to-day interaction and discovers
that he’s grown a little out of touch with his kids – especially his daughters. His value has been reduced
to a wallet and a ride to the mall. Sixteen-year-old Bridget (Kaley Cuoco, “Growing Up Brady,” “Ladies
Man”) has matured into a beautiful and popular teenager, with a different boyfriend each week and a
taste for fashion that tends to be a little too revealing for her father’s taste. By contrast, 15-year-old Kerry
(Amy Davidson, ABC Family series “So Little Time”) is intelligent and cute, but her lack of selfconfidence
has led her to hide behind a mask of sarcasm. Thank goodness for 13-year-old son Rory
(Martin Spanjers, “Daddio”), fondly referred to as “The Boy” by Paul and Cate, who remains on the sane
track…at least for the time being. No matter what they do, Paul has one major rule that will never
change – “If you make my daughters cry, I’ll make you cry.”
In the premiere episode, “Pilot,” Cate goes back to work and Paul has to contend with Bridget
dating his co-worker Tommy’s (Larry Miller) son, Kyle -- whose roving eyes threaten to break his
daughter’s heart. Meanwhile, Paul and Cate are shocked when honor student Kerry is suspended for
ditching school.
“8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter” stars John Ritter as Paul Hennessy, Katey
Sagal as Cate Hennessy, Kaley Cuoco as Bridget Hennessy, Amy Davidson as Kerry Hennessy and
Martin Spanjers as Rory Hennessy.
Guest starring are Larry Miller as Tommy, Mo Gaffney as Mrs. Connelly, Billy Aaron Brown as
Kyle, Bryan Neal as Jesse and Edward James Gage as security guard.
“Pilot” was written by Tracy Gamble and directed by Gil Junger.
The series is based on W. Bruce Cameron’s bestselling book, “8 Simple Rules for Dating My
Teenage Daughter.” Tracy Gamble (“Home Improvement,” “The Golden Girls”), who created the series,
also serves as executive producer, along with Tom Shadyac (“Liar Liar,” “The Nutty Professor,” “Patch
Adams”), Flody Suarez (“The Tick”) and Michael Bostick (“Liar Liar”). “8 Simple Rules for Dating My
Teenage Daughter,” which is filmed before an audience, is from Touchstone Television.
“8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's
selected HDTV format, with 5.1-channel surround sound.
A TV parental guideline will be posted closer to airdate.

I agree with the majority . . . 8 Simple Rules does sound a lot better. Regardless of the title, the show will be great because it has the mulit-talent John Ritter in it. And we all know that anything with John Ritter or Suzanne Somers has GOT to be good.

Does anyone know why the show keeps changing names? First it was Eight Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter, then "A Few Simple Rules", then "8 Simple Rules . . ." and now back to "Eight Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter".

I don't know why. But I liked "A Few Simple Rules" the best out of them all.

What's in a name? For a Rose, by any other name, would smell just as sweet......

I think I got it right. LOL I'm not sure, but looks like I have to brush up on my Shakespeare!

The new title is too long and silly. If the show takes off, it will most likely be shortened to 8 Simple Rules.
What's with the 8? I suppose John Ritter will tell us in the opening show. Also, shouldn't it be teenage daughters since he has 2 daughters?
I think it should have been called, The John Ritter Show.
