AMC Theatres to Change Movie Ticket Prices Based on Seat Location -UPDATE

At your next visit to AMC Theatres, getting a prime seat may cost you a little extra.

The country’s largest exhibition chain is rolling out Sightline at AMC, a ticket pricing initiative based on seat location within the auditorium. Similar to music concerts, sporting events or Broadway, moviegoers will have the option to pay more or less for admission depending on where they choose to sit in the venue. In effect, front row seats will be available at a lower price, while seats in the middle of the theater will be available at a higher price.

The initiative kicks off on Friday at select AMC locations in New York, Chicago and Kansas City and will be expanded to all domestic AMC locations by the end of the year.

When movie theaters first became popular during World War II they were a simple thing for people to forget their stress during the war and were open 24 hours a day and going to a movie cost very little money in those times. But as movie theaters started to change their image since the 40's they became known as places where anyone could enjoy seeing a movie from a couples night out to a teenager's first date with their girlfriend/boyfriend and so movie theaters started coming up with new fresh and exciting ideas to enhance the movie experience. Why I think AMC Theaters is starting this change is because when you look at the general picture AMC Theaters is the second largest theater chain next to Century Theaters and Regal Cinemas and AMC Theaters has always tried to improve their theaters by giving people things like reclining seats better quality sound systems and better foods and popcorn. But why I also think AMC Theaters is doing this is because they are eager to get more people into watching movies in theaters again because during the pandemic movie theaters lost a lot of money and so this is the way that they want to get people in to see movies in theaters again? The last time I went to the theater I spent $15 and that was to see the True Grit remake and it was at a independent theater but how will people especially families pay $30 or even $40 to see a Disney movie at an AMC Theater and I wonder how much a kids movie ticket will be at an AMC Theater now? Because it used to be that movie theaters had Family Days or Kids Days where kids were given a special price for their ticket with mom and dad. But now that AMC Theaters has started this i'm sure other movie theaters will follow suit as well

Movie theaters were popular well before the 1940's, the 1920's saw explosive growth.

Where? I never heard of this, perhaps a Times Square theater in New York City or someplace in LA, but in general, no way.

AMC is the largest movie theater chain in the world. AMC has the largest share of the U.S. theater market ahead of Regal and Cinemark Theatres.

With respect to the pricing plan, it's a recipe for disaster. Business is bad and AMC is advising its customers that some of the seats in each screening auditorium really aren't that good. They're comparing going to a movie theater to live performance venues, but that's an entirely different business. There have been all sort of problems inside theaters, fights break out, can you imagine the hapless usher who has to go and tell some gangbanger that he's sitting in premium seat he's not ticketed for, as they say in New York 'fuhgeddaboudit. AMC should be looking for ways to bring customers back into theaters not giving them another reason not to go.

As someone who still likes going the theater and has a preferred seat, i couldn't come up with worse news. The prices at AMC are already too high to begin with.

Why I also think AMC Theaters did this change was to simply get more people into watching movies at the theater again. Because when the pandemic hit a lot of movie theaters lost business or simply closed and since streaming channels started showing the new releases since movie theaters were closed due to the pandemic the new trend of streaming new releases on TV became more popular than ever. But when theaters reopened again we began seeing changes to theaters with the price of tickets going up higher and higher. With this new pricing system AMC Theaters hopes that it might work but for some people it won't work. Like can you imagine taking a family consisting of five kids to the movies? You would think that with five children the prices of kids tickets would be really high and be more expensive than the parents tickets not to mention the cost of the popcorn and drinks. I predict that AMC Theaters will lose money and go belly up in the future if this continues
