Hulu Cancels "Reboot"
"Reboot" Cancelled at Hulu; Creator Steve Levitan and 20th TV Plan to Shop the Comedy
by Lynette Rice January 30, 2023 Steve Levitan’s show-within-a-show comedy "Reboot", that stars Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville and Judy Greer, will not see a second season at the streamer. The single-camera comedy followed execs at Hulu (yes, Hulu) who decide to reboot a family comedy from the 2000s. Actors from the original return to reprise their roles for the reboot, and “deal with their unresolved issues in today’s fast-changing world,” according to the original logline. "Reboot" was Levitan’s first creation since his Emmy-winning comedy "Modern Family" wrapped in 2020. He hopes to shop it elsewhere; Deadline hears that another streamer has asked to read scripts from season two of the Twentieth TV comedy. https://deadline.com/2023/01/reboot-...dy-1235244866/ |

Johnny Knoxville on "Reboot" Cancellation: “Pretty Unbelievable”
by Denise Petski January 31, 2023 Johnny Knoxville has taken to social media to share his frustration over the cancellation of his critically acclaimed Hulu comedy series "Reboot". “It’s with a heavy heart that I say despite getting great reviews and being nominated for a Critics Choice Award @hulu has failed to pick up Reboot even for a second season. Pretty unbelievable,” Knoxville wrote on Instagram Monday night, next to a cast photo. Thanking series creator Steve Levitan and cast “for allowing me to be part of this show,” which he says “has been one of the great highlights of my life,” Knoxville expressed some optimism. “It’s not over yet though, as we tend to shop it around and hopefully it will find a home with a studio who believes in and knows how to properly support a new show as it continues to grow,” Knoxville wrote. https://deadline.com/2023/01/johnny-...lu-1235245437/ |

Rachel Bloom Weighs In on "Reboot" Cancellation: “Nothing’s Straightforward Anymore”
by Kirsten Chuba Feb. 3, 2023 At Thursday night’s premiere of the new Netflix rom-com Your Place or Mine, in which she co-stars, Rachel Bloom got honest about this week’s news that her show "Reboot" would not be returning after its first season. “The writing was on the wall for a little bit of time because we weren’t hearing anything,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m confused, people seemed to be watching it in my world. They don’t release numbers so I’m not sure how metrics work.” She continued, “I’m hoping we can sell it to a new place, I think it’s a fantastic show. I said from the beginning if I saw this show I would want to be on it, and I’d be jealous of anyone who was on it. So, I still can’t believe that I got to be on it, that I get to be on it. The cast is so ****ing fantastic. I don’t know, I don’t understand the market.” The cancellation comes at a time when many shows across the industry are getting the axe, as Bloom noted, “Nothing’s straightforward anymore, everyone is kind of sad and confused at the moment in general in Hollywood.” That particularly includes shows that are being totally removed from streaming services as a cost-cutting measure. “The taking off platforms is just a nightmare. You at least can tell yourself, ‘Oh it’ll be on there in perpetuity.’ No no no. Now, what are we doing? Theater?” Bloom questioned. “If I wanted to do theater, I’d do theater, and even that you can go to Lincoln Center and watch any Broadway play from the last 50 years. So I guess maybe they’ll be available for streaming in the Lincoln Center library? So check out Reboot at the Lincoln Center library, I guess.” https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv...on-1235316788/ |

"Reboot" Officially Dead Following Search for New Home
by Nellie Andreeva February 8, 2023 It’s final – there will be no second season for Hollywood-centric comedy "Reboot". Following the recent cancellation of the series by Hulu, Steve Levitan and producing studio 20th Television tried to find another home. There are finished scripts, produced by a writers room that had worked on a potential second season, which were sent to potential buyers. Those efforts have now been exhausted, and "Reboot" if officially over. Levitan alluded to that in a Twitter post Monday: “Well, that seems to be a wrap on Reboot. Very proud of our amazing cast and crew and what we did together.” He proceeded to take a subtle jab at Hulu’s treatment of the series by saying: “Haven’t seen it? Check us out on Hulu if you can find it, #UnintentionalLimitedSeries.” https://deadline.com/2023/02/reboot-...lu-1235254083/ |
