I just saw my first episode of 'Gloria' on tvland today, and I must admit I had doubts before it came on. I thought that Sally wouldn't be much without Carroll, Rob, and Jean- but I was wrong. The 'Gloria' show was pretty cute. Yeah, it didn't top 'All in the Family' but it was a good show.
I kind of wish tvland would add Gloria to the lineup when they start showing Archie Bunker's Place. |

I thought it was very good. It would be nice to be able to see all 24 episodes, but I doubt that will ever happen, at least it probably won't on TV Land.

There are so many different types of comedies; there are comedies like All in the Family which take issues such as bigotry, prejudice, and other similar issues and uses them in a comedic way; then, there are comedies like Gloria which have very little to do with the issues, but are still great. The idea of having a single mother in a comedy was still not big back then, and this show (at least the first episode, the only one which I've seen) really tried to press how hard it was for her and her son. It also tried to show the close relationship between Gloria and Joey.
The episode was very well done, and I enjoyed it very much. I found it very funny at the end when Joey decided to name his gay, black dog Archie It tried to really tie the show into All in the Family, but also tried to be independent and different, and I liked that very much. The show was humorous and I enjoyed it. Sure, very little can top All in the Family, but it was still a nice little comedy.

I thought it was pretty good. I liked the opening sequence where they show pictures of Gloria followed by Gloria Bunker and Gloria Stivic, both crossed out. It was a cute show, and like PPatters said, really didn't have an effect on anything in everybody life. It didn't set out to change the TV like AitF did, it was just meant to be funny. If the other 20 or so episodes were as good as #1, then it's too bad CBS decided to cancel the show, especially since it got pretty good ratings.

According to a 1982 TV Guide Article about Sally Struthers and "Gloria". Carroll O’Connor did not like the concept of the Gay Black Dog named Archie.

to me the story of the show Gloria was very depressing because mike was having fun in the sun with a young girl in california and gloria was taking care of joey by herself and working as a cage cleaning, single and living with a old wrinkled man. Poor gloria

I only watched a couple of episodes of Gloria and it just didn't seem very funny. Did it ever get better?
