Episodes That Reference TV Shows Which Aired on Another Network
During the recent Family binge on Decades I noticed that Kojak and The Mary Tyler Moore show were mentioned. Family aired on ABC and the others on CBS. I know that many series have referenced shows that aired on their own network such as The Twilight Zone being mentioned on Green Acres & TAGS, but how many other instances can you think of where a network gave a nod to their competitors?

I'm reasonably certain Taxi was still on ABC when the NBC series Bonanza was mentioned in an episode. Rev. Jim Ignatowski makes references that Alex Reiger identifies by saying "That's Bonanza!"

Back when sponsors ruled the roost on TV shows, the ending of an ABC show sponsored by Kodak advised viewers to watch The Ed Sullivan show on "another network." I supposed that would indicate that show was also sponsored by Kodak.

ALF and Star Trek were both on NBC, and have frequently been mentioned on Young Sheldon, which runs on CBS.
The original version of MacGyver (ABC) was mentioned in the episode "A Docent, A Little Lady, and a Bouncer Named Dalton." If you want to go way back, there was also a brief clip of the theme from "Magnum, P.I." (CBS) on an episode of the original version of "Quantum Leap" (NBC). |

I think I posted this on another thread years ago but there was a time in the mid 1970's where CBS shows would deliberately badmouth other network's shows on their prime time shows. I thought it was very tacky.

"Leave It To Beaver" mentioned two CBS shows (Twilight Zone and Captain Kangaroo) and one NBC show (Meet The Press).

Great one! That's the best example yet. Kramer also had the Merv Griffin set, was that syndication only?

There was a Mad About You (NBC) ep where Paul and Jamie (or was it just one of them?) got hooked on Barnaby Jones (CBS)

When the Bionic Woman moved to NBC from ABC she stopped talking about Steve (The Six Million Dollar Man ABC) but there was still Oscar and Rudy and the OSI on both shows.
