Default Honeymooners Reenactment Reviews: '93 In Living Color & 1975 SNL skit:

Honeymooners Reenactment Reviews: '93 In Living Color & 1975 SNL skit:

'93 In Living Color. This episode aired September 30, 1993.

All I can say is this skit that which is on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgPGH7g1cIc) in uncut form has a line from Ralph that would not fly today.

Ed is played by Jim Carrey. Alice is played by Ali Wentworth. Ralph is played by Jay Legget.

I remember watching this skit for the first time when FX showed reruns of this show in the late 90s. I knew it was from 1993 because that's what the title card for the skit says: "Honeymooners '93" The opening is similar to the one we know all and love but the song is different.

Alice is setting the table in the Kramden apartment. Ralph comes home and complains how the neighborhood ahs changed. He went to pick up a quarter and he got the word Chaka put on his backside. Alice says that Ralph ahs got the backside of a bus. Ralph: "One of these days, bang zoom! Smack it up! Flip it and rub it down! Oh no!" Yes, that's what he said.

Alice suggests going to that new hip hop club tonight because Snoop Dogg is doing hsi farewell performance. Hahaha! That's funny in hindsight. Ralph says that he doesn't do those new dances and he's not in the best shape on Earth. Alice: "You are right Ralph. You are in the shape OF THE EARTH." Hahaha! Alice: "I'm going upstairs to Trixie."

She goes to the door and is greeted by Ed Norton (played by Jim Carrey). Ed is carrying a stereo. Ed: "Word up Alice! You are looking very fly today Alice!" Alice leaves. Ralph says that she wants to go dancing tonight. Ed: "I saw her dancing at the Palladium last week...with a black guy."

Ralph asks Ed to teach him these new dances. They start with the Cabbage Patch. Ed puts on music from his stereo. Ed warms up and infuriates Ralph. They dance what I am assuming is the Cabbage Patch. Ed: "Go Ralph-ie! Go Ralph-ie! It's your birthday. It's your birthday. They then do another dance called A Running Man. Ed says that Ralph should pretend that he going to the buffet. Ha! Ralph gets more upset. Ed shows him another dance where he accidentally steps on Ralph's foot. Ralph does his pain routine that looks like a dance. Ralph kicks Ed out.

Alice comes back down. Alice wonders why Ralph is covered in sweat. He is? Ralph explains that he was moving like Heavy Deep. Alice: "More like Heavy Double Deep." Ralph: "One of these days Alice...whoomp! There it is! Whoomp! There it is." He says that Ed saw her dancing with other guys last night and he was afraid of losing her. She said that the person she was dancing with is one of Madonna's dancers and he is with RuPaul. Ralph now realizes he has nothing to worry about. Ralph: "Baby! You're the dopest." They embrace as the skit ends.

SNL skit (70s):

This aired on Sat. 5/29/76 with John Belushi as Ralph Kramden. Danny Aykroyd as Ed Norton. Gilda Radner as Alice Kramden. Jane Curtin.

In this skit, the foursome are portrayed as insects

The girls are in the kitchen. Trixie says that Ed was talking about his old girlfriends and how Ed's first lover was a fly. Alice: "I can't see Ed with a fly. They are so cold and closed." Trixie: "Well, Ed's fly was open." Alice says that she is sick and she will lie down. Trixie leaves. Alice goes to lie down as she puts Trixie's needles on a chair.

Ralph comes home. Alice says she will be right out. Ralph goes to sit down on the same seat that Trixie was sitting on but he is in pain due to a pair of big needles that were Trixie's needles despite the fact that the needles were laying vertically. I am thinking that when Ralph came in, a person put the needles up horizontally so this bit can be done. (When Ralph comes in, the camera zooms in on Ralph and the needles when standing have a flat surface.) He does his pain bit. Alice comes out and wonders what has gotten into Ralph. Ralph says it is her needles. Ralph: "What will the people down at the Raccoon Lodge will say?" Alice: "Why don't you tell them that you swallowed a porcupine?" Ha! Ralph says that Alice is going to the moon. Alice goes to lie down.

Ed comes down. Ralph asks Ed to get the needles out. Ed warms up and infuriates Ralph in the process. Ed does. Ralph wonders what is going on since Alice is knitting and she is sick all the time. Ed says that Alice is pregnant. Ed starts to cry in happiness. Soon after Ed leaves.

Ralph calls Alice back into the kitchen. Alice comes out. Ralph asks why she didn't tell him that we are having a baby. Alice: "Because, Ralph, it's not yours. It's Ed Nortons." Ralph: "Baby, your the greatest." The skit ends? That was very strange. The strangest ending to a Honeymooners skit that I can recall.

As far as the SNL skit goes, there is (or was a YouTube video) from the YouTube channel called GoAnimate. Here it is. It’s basically the same (right down to the fact it stars the same people as the SNL skit which is not the case) except it’s animated and they are outside the whole time and they are little kids but we are supposed to believe that they are insects.

The girls are outside sitting at a table.

Ralph calls Alice back. Alice comes. Ralph asks why she didn't tell him that we are having a baby. Alice: "Because, Ralph, it's not yours. It's Ed Nortons." Ralph: "Baby, you’re the greatest." The skit ends? That was very strange. The strangest ending to a Honeymooners skit that I can recall.
