The Title "The Cosby Show" does not relate to - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

The cosby show title does not relate to the show itself. Their last name is not cosby on the show so why does it have that title? I never understood that

Well, I think it was called "cosby Show" cuz it was Bill Cosby's idea and his show. I am not sure though, that is just my guess. I ahve always wondered that too.

I will always feel that the title "cosby show was a horrible choice. I think that was the first time that a title of a show did not relate tothe character in the show-Now there was a show called the Redd Foxx Show and guess who redd foxx was on the show? Redd foxx-see the tiltle relates to the show

You're right, that's the reason. This concept used to be very popular when an established star had their own sitcom. Celebrities such as Andy Griffith, Donna Reed, Bob Newhart, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, and more recently John Larroquette used their own names.
It's not as popular today, but it's still done. It'll probably never happen, but if Tom Hanks ever stars in a sitcom, you can bet it will be called The Tom Hanks Show.

That's exactly right. And I think it was a good title for the show. And it sounds good when you say it.
