Default I understand why Chico and the Man is not in Syndication

I understand why Chico and the Man is no longer in syndication because i saw a episode of Chico and the Man on TV Land last weekend and it was HORRIBLE. THat show really was allowed to be aired? the show debuted in 1974 and i was born in 1975, so if there is anybody who was an adult while chico and the man was on the air, feel free to tell me why if i'm wrong.

Yes, that particular episode WAS horrible! Pretty much the entire last season (from which that show was taken) was, because it was taped after the death of one of the stars, Freddie Prinze. His talent and the chemistry between him and Jack Albertson were the driving forces behind "Chico and the Man", and the decision to continue the series after his tragic and untimely death was most likely a purely financial one by the producers. If you ever get a chance to see any episodes in which Freddie was present, you would see what I mean. The entire series should not be judged on any episode from the time after Freddie died.

I agree that the show went down hill after Freddies death. To keep on airing the show after Freddies death was outragous! Even though Jack Albertson played a major role on the series. The show wasn't the same without the chemistry of Freddie and Jack together.

Please don't base you opinion on just that one episode Solomon.
Like the other gals said, the chemestry between Freddie Prinze and Jack Albertson was the thing that made that show so special. Without Freddie Prinze, there was something definitely lacking. I was almost embarrassed to watch that episode last week because it was nothing like the previous shows. I hope someday you will be able to see what a wonderful program Chico and the Man was before Freddie's untimely death. He was truly an unforgetable comedian/actor. Della Reese and Scatman Crothers were also great actors but they couldn't bring the show up to the same standards as it was when Freddie Prinze was on it.

CATM was still a good show after Freddie died but it wasn't the same & not as good as when he was alive. Trust me, you will like the Freddie episodes better & love those episodes of the show. Hope TVLAND will show them again...

After Freddie passed, the show lost its joy and happiness. I never saw a show go flat like CATM did after Freddie died.

I think i have to see some episodes of CATH when freddie is there. But in all my 27 years, there has never been a showing of CATM reruns.-I also wondered why. If there was-then i could compare CATM during the Freddie era and Post Freddie

I agree that alot of the episodes after Freddie died were really bad.. and I think it's because the other actors and even the writers and other crew felt a tremendous void and sadness without Freddie, and it carried over to the show.

The show may have gone on, but nobody's heart was really in it anymore!

There is a universe of difference in the Freddie episodes and the shows without Freddie, in my opinion! Especially the first 2 seasons!

I couldn't agree with all of you more. It was the chemisty and love between Jack and Freddie Prinze that made the show so special. You could see it everytime they put thier arms around each other or Jack patted Freddie on the top of the head. The jokes between them were incredibly funny. Freddie had an
undeniable charm that just stole your heart immediately. Even though he was only in his early twenties, he had the talent and professionalism of someone twice his age.

Sorry you missed out on such a wonderful show such as CATM.
But that was what it was "CHICO" and the man....not RAUL and the man....get it!!! Too bad the producers didn't!!

I agree Freddie & Jack had a great chermistry between them both. Without Freddie the show was a cute precocious Chicano boy & an grouchy old man. They tried but it wasn't the same...
