Default How shocking was James death?

For anyone who was in their late teens or older when james was killed off the show, did anyone seen that coming? Was there a hint from anywhere before the start of the 4th season that john amos would not be returning? if not i know that had to really be shocking

It was a total shock. Keep in mind that there was no internet back in those days, so news wasn't as fast paced and easily accessible as it is now. If you ever watch that episode again, listen to the studio audience's reaction when Florida reads the telegram telling her James was dead. They are genuinely shocked. That episode and the following funeral episode are two of the most powerful shows you'll ever see.

I saw those two episodes this past weekend and i do remember hearing the studio reaction when florida read the telegram. I had to tape over it because it was too depressing to keep on tape. But I know that had to be shocking.

Very Shocking-something i don't want to see again-I honestly feel that if the producers would have left the cast the way it was-after James died, it might have made it to the 80's-but when they added Carl, Janet Jackson, and the Football Player, It was over

AS soon as janet jackson joined the cast of good times in the fall of 1977, the show was not worth taping
