Default Stephanie Edwards' Lucky Supermarkets Commercials

https://youtu.be/7s7NVtQoUaA

I remember seeing her do several "Low Price Leader" commercials for the Lucky Supermarket Chain in California during the 1990s, Often with a much bigger role than the commercial featured above.

And I recall at the time there was another red headed TV personality by the name of Edwards on LA TV... named Steve Edwards

Wondering at the time if the two self-enamored red heads might be related.

Never until recently knowing of her Rose Parade fame

I do remember Stephanie Edwards from the Lucky Supermarket commercials in the 80's and 90's and she really knew how to make Lucky one of the top supermarkets in California and Lucky must've been very smart to pick Stephanie Edwards as their spokeswoman for their commercials. I did hear from my mom many moons ago that she retired from Lucky commercials because Stephanie was diagnosed with cancer and she survived but after she recovered I think she retired from TV and commercials. It's surprising that Lucky made a comeback in California after being under the names Save Mart and Albertson's but my mom is a big Lucky Supermarket fan and goes there every week for deals

There was a commercial she did later in her career, where she was dressed as a store employee....reminded me of the infamous "produce lady" type employees you'd take your celery to and they would bag it, weigh it, and put a price sticker on it.. The commercial was about 50% face time for her, and 50% still shots of products with their sale price "splashed" across the screen.

She was showing her age by then, but still very sharp. But the seeming similarity with then "Good Day LA" host Steve Edwards.....was pretty hard to not notice.

Both being charismatic, slightly wrinkled red heads with big toothy grins, with the same last name, and all.

They would have made a believable couple

I wonder if Stephanie Edwards and Steve Edwards were crushes and he was the guy that got her started doing Lucky commercials? And their names sound weird because if you look in name books Steve and Stephen mean crowned in Greek and Stephanie is the female version of Stephen and has the same meaning as Stephen too. When was the last Lucky commercial that Stephanie Edwards did before she had cancer and retired?

I can't really say for sure, because at the time I had no idea she was otherwise famous. I wasn't big on the Rose Parade. Wasn't until years later my curiosity of "I wonder whatever happened to that gal doing the Lucky commercials?" that I discovered she was huge among the Parade crowd.

The one thing I remembered that allowed me to find her via search is I recalled one Lucky commercial where she started with "Hi, this is Stephanie..." and I remember thinking at the time "why would anyone care what the name was of a commercial actor?"....totally not realizing she was otherwise popular.

And, right, wrong, or otherwise.....being a Lucky shopper myself.....I thought her commercials stopped when Lucky got bought out. Perhaps I just wasn't paying close enough attention at the time to realize Stephanie had already retired?

I likely would have never even cared, except that Steve Edwards always seemed so arrogant....pushing himself as some kind of celebrity. And years later got in some hot water over workplace harassment. And while I was searching for details, discovered that Stephanie was not only an Edwards, but was a celebrity too.

So, I kinda fell into a rabbit hole of charismatic, self enamored red heads named Edwards, you might say.

Funny the things we learn while looking up something else....one of the things that make the internet fun.

In retrospect, Lucky stores likely felt they had quite a prize, having such a monumental icon doing their commercials....I was just too ignorant to realize she was somebody.
