Every man Willona dated never worked out for her.
Ray. Flirt and a cheat during their first marriage. Tried to rape Thelma during their second Engagement. Frank. He wanted Willona to give up her freedom and independence to marry him. Jeffrey. Just pretending to love her in a dastardly scheme to get Penny taken away from her. Long story short, Miss Gordon paid Jeffrey to date her, and then set up a wild party behind Willona's back(To unfairly make Willona look like an unfit mother) and Miss Gordon called Police on Willona and Willona claimed the freaks were Jeffrey's Friends(Really, Willona was expecting Jeffrey to bring a couple of NORMAL friends, in a small, intimate gathering, not a bunch of random Freaks), and Jeffrey claimed that the freaks were already there when they got there. Willona is hurt and stunned and looks seconds away from crying at Jeffrey's betrayal. The Police arrest the freaks and try to arrest Willona but Miss Gordon tells the cops to wait and they do(Fans questioned why the Cops were taking orders from Miss Gordon). Jeffrey turns out to have been a paid actor for Miss Gordon and Willona is stunned and hurt. Miss Gordon agrees to leave Penny and Willona alone when she sees Penny prefers Willona over her(Especially after Miss Gordon tried to HIT Penny over being reluctant to give her a tape recorder that proves Miss Gordon and Jeffrey set up Willona). The date Florida set up Willona with didn't end up well and James told Florida she should stay out of Willona's love life. IIRC, Florida has tried to set up Willona with at least two disastrous dates that ended up not going anywhere. Willona and the deaf man didn't work out. Willona should have just become a Lesbian since none of her male dates worked out. She should have tried dating Women. Maybe she would have had better luck with Women.

![]() I guess James should’ve cheated on Florida with a man then because he was always so angry with everybody back at the apartment. All a person needs is someone of the same sex to fulfill their needs and love life, doesn’t matter the sexual orientation. Makes perfect sense.

The closest we got to a LGBTQ character was when Mandy acted like she was flirting with Thelma in a retelling if how the couch caught on fire.

Frankly, if anyone on "Good Times" should have been gay, then it should have been Michael.

Michael (nervously): Daddy…I’m gay. James: What?! Michael (nervously): I said I’m gay. James: You mean happy gay? Light hearted gay? J.J.: Well, that’s one way to put it. James: Maybe I’m just hearing wrong. Florida, did you hear what I just heard? Florida: Yes, James. James: Michael, this better be a belated April Fools joke. Michael: No, it isn’t, daddy. I’m really gay. I wish it wasn’t true, but it is. *James grabs Michael in anger* Florida: James! James (angrily): It better NOT be true, ‘cause let me tell you something, Michael! Ain’t no son of mines gon’ be no fagg*ty sissy! You got that?! I won’t hear of it! Now you better change your mind before I change it for you! You ain’t too old to get a beating! Florida: James, let go of him this instance! *James lets go of Michael while Michael bursts into tears* Thelma: It’s alright, Michael. James (angrily): The hell it is! *James shakes his head* James: Gay. *James laughs, storms off to his bedroom, and slams the door behind him* Florida: James, we really should talk this out…as a family! James (in his bedroom): I don’t wanna hear all that jazz, woman! Ain’t nothing to talk about! Either he stop being gay or imma beat it outta him! J.J.: Well, it’s nice to see things are relaxed and peaceful as usual. If ya don’t mind me asking, Michael, what part of the birds and the bees did you get stuck on? |

Given that GT was a Norman Lear-produced show, it's likely that "Michael's Dilemma" would have been a four-parter, too. Part I would have ended with James storming out of the apartment, possibly for good; part II would have ended with Florida, attempting to bring him back home, walking in on him in a compromising position with another woman instead; part III would have ended with Michael, convinced he has destroyed the family, running away from home; and part IV would have ended with Michael and James back home and James vowing to love his son no matter who he loves.
